Job Description

The Executive Director of Medical Informatics reports to the St. Peter’s Health Chief Information Officer (CIO) and is responsible for the following duties:

  • Oversee the strategic and operational plans of the Informatics team and assumes accountability for performance and outcomes.
  • Lead and facilitate the Clinical Informatics Committee (CIC) in the design of clinical systems to support excellence in patient care. Engage patient care providers with varying roles including physicians, nursing practitioners, nursing staff, ancillary department personnel, and medical records professionals to contribute to the development and use of the clinical information system. Develop empathy and understanding of physician needs and builds relationships with physicians to gain support of IT initiatives. Is highly responsive to users’ needs, including training, to assure wide spread acceptance and provider use of the clinical systems. Assist senior executives with development, implementation and oversight of St. Peter’s Health strategic, business development and operational priorities.
  • Review of medical informatics trends, experiences and approaches, develops technical and application implementation strategies and assists in the development of strategic plans for clinical information systems.
  • Work in concert with other Information Services staff to design and implement systems supporting patient care and research activities.
  • Lead design of clinical pathway models with physician, nursing and administrative leadership, and will assist in modification of these models to gain maximum efficacy and support for patient care and research protocols.
  • Lead development of clinical decision support (CDS) initiatives incorporating evidenced based practice into patient care and protocols, research as well as the design of clinical system features supporting protocol management and the use of the system to leverage the clinicians' time and maximize communication with affiliates and referring physicians.
  • Assist executive leadership with advancement of regional health services and clinical affiliations.
  • Generate clinical and business intelligence for care teams, staff members, executives, government, or scholarly institutions as may be needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by the CIO related to the furthering of the St Peter’s mission and vision.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

The position requires both clinical practice and leadership experience. This physician should be board-certified with at least five years of clinical practice experience, and demonstrated management experience, preferably as the senior leader in a multi-specialty medical group. The successful candidate will be highly-regarded as a physician leader, be technically savvy, and possess excellent facilitator and relationship skills. Prior leadership experience required. Experience in collaborating as an Epic Connect site is strongly preferred.

EDUCATION:

Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) are preferred. Advanced Practice Providers (APP’s) will also be considered. Master’s degree programs in health informatics preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY:

Board certification in their specialty required with at least five years of clinical practice experience and demonstrated management experience. Montana medical license required. Epic certification(s) are preferred.
