The Executive Dir, Medical Affairs Strategy reports to the Global Head of Medical Affairs. This position will define and develop the Medical Affairs Strategy for the uniQure gene therapy pipeline. The Executive Dir, Medical Affairs Strategy will be our internal subject matter expert across all functions and have high external visibility as a medical and scientific peer-resource to our healthcare provider community and also oversees strategy development for disease education. The Executive Dir, Medical Affairs Strategy will be a partner to the Medical Communications, Field Medical and Medical Information teams.
Job Requirements
Key result areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities)
- Act as the functional lead for Medical Affairs Strategy and showcase excellence in strategy, innovation and execution.
- Develop and lead medical strategies and project execution in conjunction with Head of Medical Affairs.
- Serve as a disease state and product expert and provide critical input into the strategic direction.
- Ensure and oversee the development of clear and well communicated medical strategies for our product that can be used to guide development of robust medical plans that support patient access and improve patient outcomes.
- Build partnerships and relationships with the scientific and medical community. Represent uniQure with the Head of Medical Affairs externally in scientific presentations, conferences and industry groups.
- Interact with key members of the medical community to identify, develop and maintain effective optimal relationships with Key Opinion Leaders.
- Support the interpretation, publication, and accurate use of scientific data, and the development of scientific content for investigator-initiated research, publications, medical communication and scientific education initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with medical societies
- Lead discussions at and develop content for medical advisory boards.
- Ensure compliant HCP interactions per company guidelines.
- Partner with our Field medical team to develop field strategy, including key initiatives, center of excellence and KOL identification and insights gathering, and be a resource for our MSL field team.
- Support medical conference strategy and planning, attend conferences to provide scientific expertise and collaborate with the HD community.
- Support the collection and dissemination of data and insights from medical conferences.
Qualifications & Skills
- MD/DO/PharmD/PhD
- Experience leading pre-and-post launch Medical Affairs strategies with a focus on external engagement with HCPs and KOLs.
- 10+ years’ industry and/or relevant clinical/scientific experience in rare disease and/or relevant specialty indications required.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, relationship building capabilities, and proven ability to influence decision-making without authority.
- Must be willing and able to travel, including internationally, regularly attending congress, symposia and advisory boards and meeting with KOLs as necessary to establish trust and credibility.
- A solid understanding of the industry’s complex regulatory and compliance requirements with an absolute commitment to competing at the highest ethical level.
- Capacity to critically analyze current scientific literature and translate for non-scientific audiences.
- Flexible, entrepreneurial by nature, a collaborative team member.
