What You'll Do

Provides oversight and direction of the medical care provided by Freeman Health system, provides leadership to the Freeman Health System Medical Staff and Medical Staff Governance. To assure that Freeman Health System has a high performing medical staff with engaged and loyal physicians. As a member of the Senior Executive leadership team, the CMO is responsible to assure that Senior Executive leadership has the necessary health care information and prospective to enable informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership responsibility for Medical Staff Committees (Medical Executive, Credentials and Critical Care)
  • Senior executive level oversight of Medical Staff Strategy Group meetings.
  • Leadership responsibility for the Physician Council and Advanced Practice Nurse Council.
  • Serve on the Freeman Physician-Hospital Organization (PHO) Board of Directors.
  • Administration of Freeman's Impaired Physician Program.
  • Responsible for Freeman's medical staff credentialing, appointment, and appointment processes; The Medical Staff Services Coordinator will report to the CMO and the CMO will attend the Medical Staff Credentials Committee meetings to provide direction, advice and oversite. Also serving as an ex officio non-voting member of the committee.
  • Responsible to provide guidance, advice and oversight of the medical staff governance process to assure that the medical staff leadership is operating appropriately and as directed under the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Procedures and Policies. Expected to attend the Medical Staff Executive Committee meetings to meetings to provide direction, advice and oversite. Also serving as an ex officio non-voting member of the committee.
  • Expected to provide leadership, administrative oversight, and direction for the Freeman Physician Council and Advanced Practice Nurse Counsel.
  • Senior Executive reporting responsibility for Freeman's System Medical Director and is expected to provide leadership, administrative oversight, and direction for the System Medical Director.
  • Will serve on the Executive Compliance and Hospital Executive IT Committees.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight for all physician related services and clinical operations to ensure quality, safety, and alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Must understand healthcare finance, physician office operations, information technology, and personnel functions as well as support services.
  • Must have thorough understanding of physician experience as a practitioner, functioning of medical staff services and needs, compliance regulation and law on a local, state, and federal level, general management principles and good leadership skills, understand and communicate complex medical data.
  • Must have a strong foundation and broad base of medical knowledge.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of Medical Staff legal issues, Medical Staff governance, and the credentialing process.
  • Ability to use analytical thinking to identify/solve operational problems, anticipate/solve revenue or budget complications, and to evaluate employee/program performance.
  • Ability to maintain an atmosphere of positive team dynamics to promote patient and team satisfaction with services provided.
  • Must interact well with employees at all levels of the organization, physicians, board members and community leaders.
  • Ability to keep current on technology, new therapies and diagnostic procedures.
  • Computer literacy including but not limited to Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Centricity, and Meditech.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Medical Staff legal issues and credentialing process.
  • Credibility among the medical staff and ability to influence physician behavior.
  • Ability to solve operational problems.

Education

  • Current Missouri license to practice medicine.
  • 5 years experience practicing in a hospital setting.
