General Summary

Reporting directly to the hospital CEO, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) assumes a pivotal role in providing physician leadership and enhancing clinical outcomes. The CMO spearheads efforts to bolster performance improvement, mitigate risks, ensure safety, uphold clinical quality standards, facilitate continuing medical education, oversee the medical staff office, manage medical school affiliations, and coordinate residency programs. Additionally, the CMO shall devote full-time effort to providing CMO duties and responsibilities, acting as a vital liaison between physicians and Case Management staff to optimize resource utilization, ultimately resulting in enhanced patient service, improved medical staff satisfaction, and reduced costs. Furthermore, the CMO bears the responsibility of guiding AdventHealth for Children (AHFC) and the AdventHealth for Children Network (AHFC Network) to new heights. This includes overarching accountability for ensuring the safety and quality of patient care at AHFC, serving as the principal intermediary between Medical Staff leadership and AHFC, and spearheading the integration of pediatric care and clinical quality standards across all AHFC Network locations.

Principal Duties And Job Responsibilities

The CMO shall lead initiatives that advance patient care within AHFC and AHFC Network, including:

Clinical Quality Advancement

Providing leadership oversight for the Quality & Safety Standards and Best Practice Programs at I) the Walt Disney Pavilion, 2) All AdventHealth Orlando ("AHO") departments providing clinical care to children (0-17), and 3) AHFC Network locations. Coordinate efforts for public and privately reported metrics to establish the hospital as a leading care provider. Engage in initiatives concerning patient safety, quality, infection control, risk management, and patient service, particularly those involving physician issues. Collaborate with AHO Medical Staff department and elected leaders to ensure an effective peer review, credentialing, and quality assurance process. Support clinical outcomes reporting, research compliance standards, and clinical research. Lead or collaborate on certification and licensure activities. Participate in Pediatric and Perinatal ethics committees. Serve as a clinical leader or liaison for medically related IT initiatives. Actively participate in AHFC, AHO, and AdventHealth System (AHS) Corporate meetings. Lead the submission of external surveys for recognition and national prominence, including US News and World Report and Leapfrog Best Children’s Hospitals survey.

Medical Staff Responsibilities

The CMO will serve as the primary administrative leader for the Medical Staff for AHFC. Primary responsibilities include:

Strategic Planning

Actively participate in strategic planning for AHFC Tertiary Children's Hospital & AHFC Network, focusing on Medical Staff & Network Development for Specialty and Primary Care. Attend necessary AHFC, AHO, and AHS Corporate meetings.

Physician And Clinical Team Oversight

Oversee 30 medical directors and 200 clinicians at AHFC, evaluating their job performance.

Medical Leadership Development

Collaborate with AHO System CMO and Administration to develop ongoing Physician Leadership Development programs. Act as a liaison for Physician Leadership Development Programs for AHFC.

Medical Staff Management

Work closely with the AHO System CMO and Hospital Leadership to create annual working plans advancing medical and clinical priorities. Serve as the primary administrative physician for AdventHealth Orlando Medical Staff representing AHFC, resolving disputes and addressing behavioral issues. Provide mentorship for AHFC Medical Directors and physicians.

Physician Recruiting

Lead and support Medical Staff recruitment initiatives.

Physician Engagement

Develop and implement a physician engagement strategy, driving clinical improvement and optimization. Act as a change agent for activities promoting clinical improvement.

Education

Lead or liaise for physician education activities within AHFC and its network. Collaborate with leadership for Graduate and Undergraduate medical education at AHFC.

Physician Communication

Lead effective physician communication strategies across the AHFC Network. Model and provide leadership for excellent customer service delivery. Develop and implement physician communication strategies facilitating information exchange and socialization.

Advocacy Responsibilities

Provide guidance on public policy matters concerning the medical staff at AHFC. State and National Children's Hospitals Organizations: Represent AHFC at state and national levels in organizations like the Florida Association of Children's Hospitals and Child Health Association in the CMO forum.

Support Philanthropic Efforts

Assist in AHFC's philanthropic endeavors by representing AHFC physicians at requested events. Physician Engagement in Philanthropy: Lead the involvement of AHFC physicians in hospital philanthropic initiatives.

Technological Advancement

Play a pivotal role in decision-making processes concerning new procedures/devices planned by various Medical Staff members. Input on Technological Advancements: Provide insights into new technology adoption at AHFC to enhance clinical quality, safety, and competitiveness within the community.

Research And Academics

Collaborate with the Chief Scientific Officer at AHO to develop and evaluate the research plan for AHFC. Utilization of Databases and Research Infrastructure: Offer input on the appropriate utilization of databases and research infrastructure at AHFC.

Ahfc Network Responsibilities

Leadership for Network Development and Integration: The CMO will provide leadership for AHFC Network Development, Integration, and Oversight, crucial for organizing and positioning the network for success in key areas such as: Implementing medical and clinical delivery models to achieve the highest quality outcomes. Enhancing access to care for patients across the AHO network. Establishing cost-effective care models across the network. Ensuring consistent standards of pediatric care across AHO network locations, including Emergency Department, Radiology, Surgery, Inpatient Pediatric, and Newborn care. Collaboration in Network Development: The CMO, alongside the AHFC CEO and other administrative leaders, will collaborate in developing and leading the AHFC Network by: Providing leadership oversight for Quality, Safety, Standards of Care, and Clinical Integration for pediatric care across the AdventHealth System and AHFC Network locations. Leading or collaborating on the development of Medical, Clinical, IT Integration, Population Health Initiatives, and Contracting models of care to meet evolving pediatric healthcare reimbursement and Quality Care expectations.
