We are a nonprofit dedicated to facilitating research and driving improvements in care and outcomes for people with type 1 diabetes. Our mission is to help those with Type 1 diabetes live better, longer lives.

About The Role

In this position, you will support the CEO and the Board of Directors in shaping the overall growth, strategy, clinical and research services of the organization. You will employ strong leadership, relationship management, research, and strategy execution skills to accomplish key organizational objectives. You will provide medical leadership for the entire T1D Exchange (T1DX) organization and focus on the following key areas:

Leadership of the Quality Improvement Collaborative (QIC) and the T1DX staff supporting these efforts Oversight and execution of select grant and project proposal applications Provision of medical input for select patient and provider research initiatives utilizing various diabetes datasets (e.g., EMR data device data, etc.) Representation of T1DX at key diabetes conferences and external partner meetings

You are expected to work with key QIC members, especially QIC committee and workgroup leaders, to drive quality improvement efforts and related diabetes population health efforts, utilizing the rich data assets of the organization such as the EMR data repository from participating QIC endocrinology centers. While most of the work involves T1D, there is a growing focus on T2D both in the pediatric and adult populations.

What You'll Do

Serve as a senior executive leader and provide strategic direction Provide clinical insights and engage with the T1DX Board of Directors, including attendance at quarterly Board meetings (usually virtual) Directly supervise the QI and Population Health staff Support business development including grant applications, sponsored research / project proposals with industry and other nonprofit funders Serve as Principal Investigator where relevant on major multi-center grants including T1D and T2D real world data and quality improvement / implementation studies – seek clinical partners/investigators from QIC as needed pending grant focus Partner with senior management team members on clinical implementation and data strategy Manage the partnerships with Faculty Leads of clinical sites and other stakeholders (e.g., health system leadership, health system IT and legal, and CMOs) to ensure successful execution of the program Ensure extended team (T1DX and QIC leads) train participating QIC members on improvement science, performance management and data analysis Serve as a thought leader in the field and represent T1DX at external conferences, advisory committees, and meetings (diabetes, healthcare improvement, RWE, etc.) – example conferences may include ADA, ATTD, EASD, ISPAD, ADCES, DTS and CWD Build the necessary network across key stakeholder groups (e.g., EMR vendors/experts, health system leadership, value-based care experts, QI organizations, payers) to accomplish T1DX strategic objectives Establish key internal performance indicators and dashboards for the organization and relevant external programs Collaborate with the grants and contracts manager in grant writing and seeking funding through public and private funding opportunities Identify new opportunities for expanding impact of T1DX programs through data collection, analysis and dissemination Lead T1DX publication planning efforts in consultation with QIC and other key research stakeholder partners Coach and mentor the internal staff Manage timelines, deliverables, and budget for the program

Qualifications

Medical degree (MD/MD equivalent) with clinical experience in type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, or other relevant chronic diseases Master’s degree in epidemiology, population health, public health, or related field preferred but not required 10+ years’ experience in diabetes care, research or quality improvement activities Formal advanced training/certifications in quality improvement methodology (e.g., IHI model of improvement, Lean Six Sigma / Black Belt strongly preferred but not required Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or similar preferred but not required

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Leadership experience in health systems/large clinic network care delivery or quality improvement efforts. Deep understanding of diabetes patient care Knowledge and experience of biostatistics/data analytics Knowledge of population health management and quality improvement principles Experience with planning and executing publications in peer review journals and other scholarly publications Deep understanding of HIPAA, data integration and familiarity with EMR/EHR functionality Persuasive communication skills, both verbal and written, including presentation skills to senior management and the board Proven ability to manage projects, establish priorities among multiple simultaneous deadlines and multi-task An enterprising spirit and ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems Ability to travel 10- 15%, including some international travel (note: virtual work otherwise)
