Reporting to the Executive Director, Field Medical Affairs, the Sr. Area Director, Field Medical Affairs will be responsible for the strategic regional direction and execution, as well as building, coaching and developing a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) within a defined U.S. region, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. This individual will ensure effective scientific engagement with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and serve as a key liaison between the field medical team and internal stakeholders including research and development, clinical operations, commercial, and medical strategy.
This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role in a growing medical affairs organization as Viridian prepares for potential product launches and lifecycle management of key pipeline assets.
This role is fully remote with candidates required to live in the corresponding geographic area. Travel to headquarters for meetings may be required at the discretion of management.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of high-performing MSLs within a defined area Ensure alignment and execution of field medical strategy in support of corporate and medical objectives Drive consistent and compliant scientific exchange with external stakeholders including KOLs, investigators, and decision-makers Collaborate cross-functionally with Research and Development, Clinical Operations, Commercial, Medical Strategy, HEOR, and other internal partners to ensure integration of field insights into broader strategic planning Oversee regional field activity metrics, territory planning, and stakeholder mapping to ensure optimal engagement Monitor performance and provide coaching and development for MSLs to ensure excellence in scientific engagement, insight gathering, and strategic impact Maintain deep scientific and clinical knowledge of relevant disease areas and Viridian pipeline assets Ensure compliance with all internal policies and external regulations governing field medical activities Support priority HCP engagement activities in open MSL territoriesQualifications:
Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, OD, PA, DNP, MSN) strongly preferred; other advanced degrees with relevant experience will be considered 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs preferred Experience in field-based roles and MSL leadership required Prior launch experience preferred Proven track record of developing and implementing field medical strategies Demonstrated success in hiring, developing, and leading field medical teams Strong understanding of Medical Affairs strategy, field team operations, and stakeholder engagement across the product lifecycle Ability to travel 60–70%, including regular field visits and HQ meetings Outstanding communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic biotech environment Strong commitment to ethical standards The salary range for this position is commensurate with experienceViridian offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
