Description
The AVP of Clinical Documentation Improvement provides executive leadership and oversight of the CDI program across all BHSF facilities. This role ensures accurate, concise, and compliant documentation that reflects the severity of illness, intensity of service, and quality of care. The AVP partners with clinical, operational, and revenue cycle leadership to enhance documentation integrity, optimize reimbursement, reduce denials, and support public reporting initiatives. Key responsibilities include program development, staff training and development, workflow optimization, technology implementation, AI integration, and alignment with CMS and payer requirements. The AVP drives a culture of clinical excellence and high reliability, enabling informed decision-making, improved patient outcomes, and accurate reflection of the system’s performance across payors and quality metrics.
Qualifications
MD, DO, RN, or ECFMG-certified international medical graduate. Active RN license (if applicable), ECFMG certification (if applicable), CCDS or CDIP.
Transformational and strategic leader with proven ability to drive large-scale CDI initiatives across multiple facilities.
Demonstrated expertise in hospital medicine, inpatient care, hospitalist group operations, managed care (commercial and government programs), and clinical documentation compliance.
Strong record in leveraging technology, analytics, and AI solutions to optimize documentation, coding, and workflow efficiency.
Experienced in cross-departmental collaboration with Quality, UR, Social Work, Physician Advisors, HIM, and PFS to enhance documentation impact on clinical, financial, and operational outcomes.
Skilled in public reporting initiatives (Leapfrog, CMS, U.S. News & World Report) and expansion of payor reviews beyond traditional Medicare, MA, and Exchange populations.
Proven ability to mentor, motivate, and lead clinical documentation teams while fostering physician engagement and improving program performance.
Excellent understanding of legal and regulatory aspects of coding, MS-DRG, APR-DRG, case management, utilization review, and discharge planning. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CDI/Coding software.
Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in CDI, with leadership experience in a large acute care or multi-hospital health system.
