Position Summary Provides leadership and oversight for the evaluation, deployment, optimization, and governance of AI-enabled tools that augment clinical care at UI Health.
Position Summary
This role focuses on Health Care AI solutions, balancing innovation with safety, compliance, and clinical effectiveness. The person in this position will partner closely with the AI Assessment Lead, Information Services, and operational leaders to ensure responsible adoption of AI technologies. They will also engage with external and internal partners, including AI.Health4All and other University collaborators, to foster research, innovation, and education in applied AI.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop strategy for the use of AI in care delivery at UI Health.
- Serves as the primary bridge between technology, governance, and frontline care delivery in the AI space.
- Leads clinical evaluation and adoption of AI solutions at UI Health.
- Partners with the AI Evaluation Lead and IS leadership to ensure AI implementations are safe, ethical, and effective.
- Develops clinical use cases and provides oversight for AI tool optimization and workflow integration.
- Ensures compliance with institutional governance processes, regulatory requirements, and best practices for AI in healthcare.
- Monitors outcomes and provider/patient experience with AI-enabled solutions, using data-driven evaluation methods.
- Supports academic collaboration on AI research and innovation, including partnerships with AI.Health4All and other institutions.
- Promotes education and awareness of AI in medicine for providers and learners.
- Serves as a change agent, helping clinicians adapt to AI-supported care models.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned by the CMIO.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Health care professional degree (MD, DO, or APP such as NP/PA) required.
Eligible for or holding an unrestricted Illinois license to practice.
Demonstrated experience with EHR optimization or digital health initiatives required.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong leadership, communication, and collaborative skills required.
Board Certification in Clinical Informatics (Through fellowship training in Clinical Informatics or equivalent experience.)
Experience evaluating and implementing clinical AI tools within Epic or other health IT platforms within an academic medical center.
Knowledge of data science, machine learning, or AI principles in healthcare.
Track record of academic collaboration or research in digital health or innovation.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary projects and manage organizational change.
