Case Study: Building Physician Trust in AI Training with Mercor

When Mozibox first began working with Mercor in 2025, AI training was still unfamiliar territory for most physicians.

Mercor was building teams of subject-matter experts to help train and evaluate advanced AI models. In healthcare, that meant finding physicians who could do work very different from traditional clinical practice: writing and evaluating prompts, reviewing AI-generated responses, building rubrics, creating clinical scenarios, and applying medical judgment to improve model quality.

The opportunity was compelling. But there was also a challenge.

Many physicians had never heard of this kind of work. Others were skeptical of AI training platforms or simply weren't sure what the projects involved, what to expect from the interview, or whether the work would be a good fit for them.

A bridge between Mercor and the physician community

Mozibox became a bridge between Mercor and the physician community.

We explained what the work involved, published firsthand experiences from physicians who had participated in projects, and helped physicians better understand the application and interview process. Those articles generated approximately 20,000 views.

But articles alone weren't enough.

Our physician co-founder talked directly with physicians on the phone when they had questions: sometimes before they applied, sometimes during the interview process, and sometimes even after they had joined a project.

Some conversations were about what AI training actually meant. Others were about whether a particular project made sense for their background, what to expect once they started, or simply whether the opportunity was legitimate.

There was no shortcut to building that trust. It happened one conversation at a time, one physician at a time.

Why distribution alone isn't enough

That experience taught us something important about building a new category of physician work. You can post an opportunity to thousands of people, but distribution alone isn't enough. Physicians need context. They need someone who understands both the opportunity and the realities of being a physician. And sometimes they just need to be able to talk to another physician.

As more physicians participated in projects and shared their experiences, awareness began to spread organically through the physician community. Physicians who initially knew very little about medical AI work started telling their colleagues about it.

Building a new category of physician work

Our work with Mercor also highlighted a broader shift we were beginning to see: physicians have expertise that can be valuable far beyond direct patient care.

In medical AI projects, that expertise can include:

• Evaluating whether AI-generated medical answers are clinically sound
• Writing prompts and ideal responses
• Developing scoring rubrics
• Creating realistic clinical scenarios
• Identifying errors and edge cases
• Reviewing datasets and medical content
• Providing specialty-specific clinical judgment

These projects gave physicians a new way to apply their expertise while contributing to the development of advanced AI systems.

For Mozibox, the experience reinforced an idea that has become central to what we are building:

The challenge isn't simply finding physicians. It's creating the infrastructure that helps physicians discover new kinds of work, understand what those opportunities mean, and connect with organizations that need their expertise.

The simplest lesson

Our relationship with Mercor started with individual opportunities and physician referrals. It grew into something much bigger: helping introduce physicians to an entirely new category of work in medical AI.

And one of our biggest lessons was also one of the simplest:
