Associate Director, Medical Affairs

The Associate Director of Medical Affairs, Ophthalmology, is responsible for implementing key aspects of the global medical affairs strategy for Ophthalmology, focusing primarily on scientific communications, publications, and congresses. The role involves collaboration with global and regional teams and cross-functional stakeholders to support data generation, insight gathering, and other activities within the Ophthalmology therapeutic area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support development of publication strategy
  • Support implementation of GMA strategy through execution of Medical Publication Plan to support GMA objectives
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams on approaches to fill identified data and/or communication gaps in alignment with overall strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with Field Medical, Regional Medical Teams and Medical Information to ensure resources are available at appropriate times to support key objectives
  • Maintain Scientific Communication Plan and lexicon
  • Serve as scientific resource to cross-functional stakeholders
Required
  • Must have an MD, PhD, or PharmD degree or equivalent
  • 2-4 years + experience working in medical affairs in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry and experience at an AD level
  • Minimum of 2 years + experience working in Medical Communications/Publications, budget and agency management
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation
  • Ability to work independently and with flexibility to handle workflow in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
  • Experience in Ophthalmology therapeutic area preferred, particularly within the retina field
  • Experience across drug development stages, particularly in late-stage development, launch, and post-approval settings
  • People management experience preferred
  • Some travel may be required, up to 20%

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Medical Affairs, Ophthalmology is a key member of the Global Medical Affairs team who will work closely with Global and Regional Medical Affairs teams and cross-functional stakeholders to implement key aspects of the global medical affairs strategy for Ophthalmology. The successful candidate will drive execution across medical affairs activities, primarily focused on scientific communications/publications and congresses, but may also include data generation, insight gathering, and other activities in support of the Ophthalmology therapeutic area.
