The role involves delivering world-class care to complex ICU patients in a multidisciplinary setting, contributing to the education of residents and fellows, and collaborating closely with advanced practice providers and other care team members. The position requires expertise in managing complex ICU cases, performing bedside procedures, and participating in academic acute care medicine including research and teaching.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide exceptional patient care in a multidisciplinary setting
- • Contribute to the education of residents/fellows in the medical intensive care unit
- • Demonstrate exceptional teamwork with advanced practice providers, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and all care team members
- • Function as part of the Critical Care Medicine team
- • Provide supervision, admission staffing, and clinical education to Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, Surgery and Family Practice residents
- • Provide advanced supervision to Critical Care Fellows
- • Build strong partnerships with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)
- • Lead the team and resolve conflicts
- • Manage resources and team effectively
- • Contribute significantly to increase research productivity of the Critical Care Department
Required
- • Board Certification in Critical Care
- • Ability to obtain an unrestricted Florida license
- • Two or more years of experience in the management of complex ICU patients
- • Experience with common and advanced bedside procedures
- • Experience in the use of bedside critical care ultrasound for patient assessment and procedures
- • Strong interest in a career in academic acute care medicine with proficiency in education and teaching of medical learners
- • Good communicator
- • High emotional quotient (EQ) to collaborate and mediate with all teams guaranteeing patient centric approach
- • Ability to build strong mutually respectful relationships with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), all clinical staff including nursing, and administrative leaders
- • Must be ABA, ABEM, ABIM, or ABS critical care medicine board-certified or board-eligible
- • Minimum of two years of combined experience in both surgical and medical critical care
- • Strong commitment to an academic career in critical care medicine
Preferred
- • Experience as an attending staff member in Critical Care for 2 years or one year as a Chief Resident/Chief Fellow and one year attending staff member
- • Advance cardiopulmonary physiology, hemodynamics and multimodal monitoring
- • Ideal research interests include Outcomes Research, Big-Data, Information Technology, Predictive Analytics and using Quality Improvement Tools to Advance Healthcare Delivery
- • Previous experience in clinical research
- • Skill sets related to the complex care of cardiothoracic, transplant, vascular, and general surgical patients
- • Knowledge of various modes of mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella, etc.)

Mayo Clinic Department of Critical Care Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida is seeking a part-time, supplemental Intensivist to deliver world class care to complex patients. Successful candidates will be expected to provide exceptional patient care in a multidisciplinary setting, contribute to the education of residents/fellows in the medical intensive care unit and demonstrate exceptional teamwork with advanced practice providers, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and all care team members. Board Certification in Critical Care and the ability to obtain an unrestricted Florida license is required.
- Ideal qualifications include the following:
- Two or more years of experience in the management of complex ICU patients, as well as, experience with common and advanced bedside procedures.
- Includes for example 2 years' experience as an attending staff member in Critical Care; or one year as a Chief Resident/Chief Fellow and one year attending staff member.
- Experience in the use of bedside critical care ultrasound for patient assessment and procedures.
- Advance cardiopulmonary physiology, hemodynamics and multimodal monitoring
- Strong interest in a career in academic acute care medicine with proficiency in education and teaching of medical learners (medical students, residents, and physician extenders/advanced practice providers).

- Based on the background and clinical expertise of individual candidates, the position could be in one of the following ICUs or include a combination of both:
- Function as part of the Critical Care Medicine team. Evening coverage may include:
- Medical ICU
- CVTx ICU (Cardiovascular, Thoracic, Transplant Service Line). This service line manages critically ill patients with cardiology (AM
- TXCCS (Abdominal Transplant and Surgical ICU Service Line). This service line manages critically ill patients with liver/kidney failure-transplant, also including critical care from selected surgical specialties such as hepatobiliary, colorectal, urology and orthopedic surgery.
- Ability to build strong partnership with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) is required.
- Provide supervision, admission staffing, and clinical education to Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, Surgery and Family Practice residents. As well as advanced supervision to Critical Care Fellows.

The ICU at Mayo Clinic in Florida is a vigorous 54-bed unit with several subspecialties that cares for a broad array of medical and surgical critical illnesses in support of a quaternary hospital. Skill sets related to the complex care of cardiothoracic, transplant, vascular, and general surgical patients along with knowledge of various modes of mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella, etc.) are ideal. This opportunity provides a robust challenge for the combined medical and surgical critical care intensivist.
