This role involves providing clinical care as a Pediatric Hospitalist at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, and participating in hospital and departmental committees. Faculty members also have opportunities to engage in medical education, quality improvement, clinical research, and hospital leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- • Teaching: Physician will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows when applicable.
- • Physician will provide educations to ancillary staff as needed.
- • Service: Physician will serve on hospital or departmental (CHoR or VCUH) committees when appropriate, and engage in professional activities through journal review, conference presentations and national organization committee work.
- • Clinical (anticipate 0.50 cFTE): Physicians provide clinical service as a Pediatric Hospitalist in the Children’s Hospital of Richmond.
- • Shifts are distributed equitably based upon FTE allocation, additional roles and responsibilities, and seasonal trends.
- • Administrative (anticipate effort will be from time not on clinical service): All faculty are expected to participate in committee work, development of clinical guidelines, and participate in division and department faculty meetings and educational conferences for both faculty development and fellowship training.
- • Financial support is possible for specific academic or research interests of the faculty member.
- • Research: CHoR, the Department of Pediatrics and Division of of Hospital Medicine support basic science, translations, health services, clinical, improvement science, and medical education research.
- • The Children’s Health Research Institute supports research through internal grant opportunities, mentorship, and research staff to support clinician scientist thought the life cycle of research.
Required
- • Candidates must be board certified in pediatrics or internal medicine-pediatrics.
- • All candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in Virginia.
- • Drug Enforcement Agency licensure
- • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred
- • Two or more years of clinical experience in pediatric hospital medicine.
- • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- • Completion of Pediatric Fellowship training is preferred but not required.
- • Current board certification in pediatric hospital medicine is preferred but not required.
- • Prior leadership experience or program development in pediatric hospital medicine.
- • Prior experience or formal training in clinical research
- • Previous training and clinical experience in medicine/pediatrics, caring for adolescent patients, children with medical complexity, or inpatient transitions of care

MISSION OR GOAL OF UNIT: The mission of the Division of Hospital Medicine is to provide world class care and world class caring for every child and every family we serve every day. We works in partnership with other pediatric medical and surgical specialists to provide direct pediatric patient care for children with acute or chronic diseases and those with special health care needs. Pediatric Hospital Medicine plays an integral role in the tripartite mission of the Department of Pediatrics. Our faculty contribute to and lead educational programs (medical students, residents, fellows and ancillary staff), quality and safety initiatives, clinical research, and hospital committee work. CHIEF PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION IN SUPPORT OF ABOVE MISSION OR GOAL: The Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University is currently seeking two academic faculty member for the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine to work 0.5 FTE in our division as either a part-time role or a combined medicine/pediatrics position. CHoR at VCU is committed to the provision of the highest quality patient care and service excellence. This is a part time position providing direct care on the academic teams at our quaternary children’s hospital. In addition to clinical care, faculty have the opportunity to develop career interests in medical education, quality improvement, clinical research, or hospital leadership.

- Administrative (anticipate effort will be from time not on clinical service): All faculty are expected to participate in committee work, development of clinical guidelines, and participate in division and department faculty meetings and educational conferences for both faculty development and fellowship training. Our faculty take pride in our contributions to training the next generation of pediatricians and academic pediatric hospitalists. Financial support is possible for specific academic or research interests of the faculty member.
