The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of patient care at Pennsylvania Hospital, overseeing professional staff, graduate medical education, and physician recruitment and retention. The role also involves leadership in strategic direction, business development, clinical program implementation, and championing the educational mission of the hospital and medical school.
Key Responsibilities
- • Quality of care delivered to and the safety of patients at Pennsylvania Hospital.
- • Oversight of Pennsylvania Hospital professional staff with respect to quality of care, patient safety, credentialing and professionalism.
- • Oversight of graduate medical education at Pennsylvania Hospital.
- • Physician recruitment and retention, in collaboration with the Executive Director and other senior leadership, and in support of strategic growth and clinical quality for Pennsylvania Hospital and UPHS.
- • Leadership with respect to the strategic direction, business development, financial performance, and development and implementation of clinical programs at Pennsylvania Hospital and throughout UPHS.
- • Championing the educational mission of Pennsylvania Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School through clinical and educational leadership.
- • Liaison with Chairs and Chiefs at Penn in matters related to corresponding leadership issues and performance in the corresponding Department at PAH.

- • Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures along with all other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Required
- • Must be board certified MD in a relevant specialty by the State of Pennsylvania.
- • Doctor of Medicine (MD) with 10 or more years of relevant working experience including healthcare leadership.
- • Demonstrated consultative, team building, and group facilitative skills.
- • Knowledge of healthcare operations.
- • Comprehensive understanding of hospital operations.
- • Understanding of regulatory compliance.
- • Understanding of the Joint Commission and Department of Health process and standards.
- • Ability to manage concurrent projects while meeting project deadlines.
- • Strong financial/business acumen.
Preferred
- • A Ph.D. is preferred with having 5 or more years of relevant working experience including healthcare leadership.

Pennsylvania Hospital is looking for our next Chief Medical Officer. While reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of Pennsylvania Hospital; and matrixed to the University of Pennsylvania Health System's Chief Medical Officer, this position is responsible for the following:
- Quality of care delivered to and the safety of patients at Pennsylvania Hospital.

The ideal candidate must be a Doctor of Medicine (MD) with 10 or more years of relevant working experience including healthcare leadership. A Ph.D. is preferred with having 5 or more years of relevant working experience including healthcare leadership.
