The Assistant Medical Director will provide clinical leadership and oversight for the Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards. The role involves direct supervision of clinical staff, development of evidence-based policies, delivery of high-quality patient care, and leading quality and compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- • Partner with the Medical Director to oversee clinical operations of the MAT program, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards.
- • Provide direct supervision and clinical leadership to physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and nursing staff.
- • Develop and implement evidence-based policies and procedures to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- • Collaborate with executive and administrative leadership on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and program development.
- • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
- • Oversee and adjust medication-assisted treatment protocols, including methadone and buprenorphine (Subutex) dosing.
- • Provide direct patient care as needed, including physical examinations, medication management, and withdrawal stabilization.
- • Ensure clinical documentation is timely, accurate, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- • Implement and monitor quality assurance initiatives to maintain the highest standards of care.
- • Review clinical data and performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- • Participate in internal reviews, audits, and regulatory inspections.
- • Work closely with counseling, case management, and administrative teams to ensure coordinated, whole-person care.
- • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community healthcare providers and external organizations.
Required
- • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in addiction medicine, with a focus on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) preferred.
- • Valid and unrestricted North Carolina medical license.
- • Active DEA license for prescribing controlled substances.
Preferred
- • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- • Board Certification in Addiction Medicine (ABPM or ABAM) preferred.

McLeod Centers for Wellbeing is currently seeking a Full-time Assistant Medical Director to support our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program.
How will you help us achieve our mission? You will:

What are the qualifications needed for this role?
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in addiction medicine, with a focus on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) preferred.
Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Valid and unrestricted North Carolina medical license.

What is the work environment for this role?
This position operates primarily in a clinical office setting with regular interaction with colleagues, patients, and external healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include desk work, walking, and frequent use of a computer and telephone. Occasional travel between locations may be required, and the role may involve lifting up to 25 lbs.
