Key Responsibilities
- • Deliver comprehensive ophthalmologic evaluations and treatments for residents and patients in skilled nursing and long-term acute care settings.
- • Diagnose and manage ocular diseases, including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, macular degeneration, and ocular surface disease.
- • Collaborate with interdisciplinary medical, nursing, and rehabilitation teams to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.
- • Provide consultative ophthalmology services for patients with complex medical and visual needs.
Required
- • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Ophthalmology (within 5 years post-residency).
- • New York State medical license required.
- • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care.
Preferred
- • Experience in geriatrics, complex medical populations, or hospital-based ophthalmology strongly preferred.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler is located on Roosevelt Island and is renowned for its specialized memory care program, high-quality short-term rehabilitation therapy, and long-term skilled nursing services.
Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital & Skilled Nursing Facility is a nationally recognized facility with a 164-bed CMS 5-Star-Rated Skilled Nursing Facility and a 201-bed Long-Term Acute-Care Hospital (LTACH). Carter is known for its pulmonary excellence, ventilator-weaning expertise, and comprehensive long-term care.
Together, Coler and Carter provide patients with a continuum of exceptional care, in warm and supportive environments.
Responsibilities
As an Ophthalmologist with NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler & Carter, you will:
