Department of Medicine - Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Environmental Medicine
Job Description
The University of Missouri’s Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Environmental Medicine invites applications for a fulltime faculty position within its established and expanding pulmonary and critical care program. Led by Dr. Hunter Hofmann, the division is home to more than twenty faculty members whose clinical expertise spans asthma, obstructive and restrictive lung disease, pulmonary physiology, sleep apnea, and comprehensive ICU medicine. This role offers the opportunity to provide inpatient and outpatient care while contributing to the education of fellows, residents, and medical students in a collaborative academic environment.
The division supports a fully accredited three-year Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship with sixteen fellows. This complements robust clinical services, active research programs, and strong interdisciplinary partnerships across MU Health Care’s six hospital system, specialty and primary care clinics. As part of a thriving critical care enterprise, faculty members oversee a busy 36-bed critical care unit, with dedicated noctensivist support. Faculty schedules are intentionally designed to promote academic productivity, scholarly activity, and professional development. In addition, there are meaningful opportunities to help grow the division’s interventional pulmonology program, pulmonary hypertension program, cystic fibrosis program, and research efforts.
Faculty benefit from a competitive academic base salary paired with excellent university benefits, including an 8% retirement match, tuition assistance, and potential performance incentives. The division operates within the University of Missouri School of Medicine’s broader partnership with MU Health Care and the university campus, an environment recognized for high employee engagement, national accolades, advanced healthcare technology, and the resources of Missouri’s largest public research institution.
Located in the welcoming and fast-growing community of Columbia, Missouri, the position offers an exceptional quality of life. Columbia is consistently ranked among the best places to live in the United States, known for top-rated schools, a low cost of living, a vibrant art and culinary scene, abundant outdoor recreation, and a strong sense of community. Physicians will find the city to be both “more than a college town” and a surprisingly sophisticated place to call home.
This opportunity is ideal for both early career physicians and seasoned clinicians seeking to join a collegial academic division, contribute to a high-quality clinical enterprise, and enjoy the benefits of life in an engaging, livable community.
