Trauma Medical Director

The Trauma Surgery Medical Director will provide clinical leadership in trauma services, including managing trauma and emergency general surgery consults, rounding on patients, and providing OR coverage. The role involves ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and ACS standards, participating in call schedules, and collaborating with physician-APP teams. Additionally, the director will engage in regional outreach, quality improvement programs, and mentorship of trauma team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in the clinical management of trauma services
  • Evaluate all trauma and emergency general surgery consults
  • Round on patients in the STICU and Trauma Acute Care Surgery services
  • Provide OR coverage for trauma, emergency general surgery, and elective general surgery
  • Participate in Q3 Trauma/Acute Care Surgery call (with protected time)
  • Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, ACS standards, and institutional protocols
  • Collaborate in a 1:1 physician–APP model for both clinical care and call support
  • Regional outreach and commitment to trauma and emergency surgical services
  • Involvement in both TQIP and NSQIP
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to trauma team members including acute care surgeons, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff
Required
  • MD/DO degree
  • Fellowship training in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care
  • Board Certified/Eligible by the American Board of Surgery (or Osteopathic Board Certification)
  • Licensed (or eligible) to practice medicine in Texas
  • Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (when qualified)
  • ATLS certification
  • Demonstrated experience managing trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care patients
  • Experience with laparoscopic or robotic surgery required

Baylor Scott and White Medical Center – Pflugerville is seeking a Trauma Surgery Medical Director to join the Department of Surgery at our hospital in Pflugerville, TX. We are expanding our Trauma Surgery service and seeking a visionary physician leader to guide and advance the delivery of trauma care as we work toward achieving Level III Trauma Designation.

Position Information:
