Faculty.Professor.Professor - Full-Time

Faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level are available for candidates with research interests in aging-related fields such as cancer, dementia, depression, and other geriatric conditions. The role involves conducting scientific research, obtaining external funding, publishing peer-reviewed results, teaching, and contributing to scholarly leadership and career development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct scientific research in areas including cancer, dementia, depression, falls, frailty, heart disease, incontinence, infections, mobility, osteoporosis, pain, pharmacotherapy, resilience, sarcopenia, and the biology of aging
  • Obtain and maintain external research funding
  • Disseminate research results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums
  • Provide significant teaching in related scientific fields
  • Demonstrate capacity for sustained career development, promotion, and tenure (Assistant Professor level)
  • Demonstrate capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership (Associate Professor level)
  • Achieve authoritative knowledge, effective teaching skills, and leadership in professional and learned organizations (Professor level)
Required
  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. with evidence of extramural funding and research interest in relevant fields
  • Assistant Professor: three or more years of experience in related scientific research
  • Assistant Professor: obtained or demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding
  • Assistant Professor: disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums
  • Assistant Professor: significant teaching experience
  • Assistant Professor: capacity for sustained career development, promotion, and tenure
  • Associate Professor: five or more years of experience in related scientific research
  • Associate Professor: independent, external research funding
  • Associate Professor: substantial record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Associate Professor: significant teaching experience
  • Associate Professor: capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership
  • Professor: five to seven years served as Associate Professor
  • Professor: attainment of authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field
  • Professor: achievement of effective teaching skills
  • Professor: attained superior stature through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations

The Department of Medicine - Division of Geriatrics, University of Pittsburgh, invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE, or PROFESSOR level, both inside the tenure stream and outside the tenure stream. Applicants should have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with evidence of extramural funding and research interest in cancer, dementia, depression, falls, frailty, heart disease, incontinence, infections, mobility, osteoporosis, pain, pharmacotherapy, resilience, sarcopenia, and the biology of aging. Applicants should submit a letter of interest and a current CV. Startup resources and compensation are available commensurate with experience.

Applicants for Assistant Professor, non-tenure or tenure-stream, should have three or more years of experience in related scientific research; have obtained or demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding; have disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained career development, promotion, and tenure.

Applicants for Associate Professor, non-tenure, tenure-stream, tenured, should have five or more years of experience in related scientific research; have independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications; have significant teaching experience; and demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.

Applicants for Professor, non-tenure, tenure-stream, and tenured will have served five to seven years as Associate Professor. The rank of professor recognizes the attainment of authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning and the achievement of effective teaching skills. The professor should have attained superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.
