Ascension
The Telepsychiatry Medical Director provides clinical and strategic leadership for Ascension’s telepsychiatry program, ensuring delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care across multiple acute care settings. This role collaborates in a dyad partnership model to co-lead strategy, quality, performance, and growth initiatives, aligning clinical strategy with business goals and serving as a liaison between clinical and administrative teams.
Key Responsibilities
- • Collaborate in a dyad model with the operational/administrative leader to co-lead the program.
- • Align clinical strategy with business goals, ensuring the telepsychiatry service is both mission-driven and financially sustainable.
- • Serve as a liaison between clinical and administrative teams to enhance communication, efficiency, and team cohesion.
- • Promote integration of telepsychiatry with other specialties (ED, inpatient psychiatry, medical floors, ICU).
- • Provide clinical oversight in collaboration with behavioral health unit leadership to BHUs utilizing telepsychiatry services.
- • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as consult response times, length of stay impact, ED throughput, and patient/family satisfaction, and regularly report these metrics to market and system leadership.
- • Lead quality improvement initiatives, aligning with CMS, Joint Commission, and internal benchmarks.
- • Partner with internal legal, compliance, and administrative teams to ensure that credentialing, licensure, and risk management processes are current, comprehensive, and aligned with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- • Ensure that all aspects of telepsychiatry services comply with applicable federal and state laws, licensing board regulations, and industry standards including those related to telehealth delivery, HIPAA privacy and security, and clinical documentation.
- • Recruit, onboard, mentoring and evaluation of telepsychiatrists and advanced practice providers, both internal providers and vendor partners.
- • Oversee clinical scheduling and ensure adequate coverage, including nights, weekends, and surge demand.
- • Contribute to the development of sustainable business models and ROI, including optimization of pro-fee billing, contracts, and vendor partnerships.
- • Represent the telepsychiatry program in system-level leadership meetings, committees, and initiatives.
- • Lead the design and deployment of innovative telepsychiatry care models, including integrated behavioral health.
- • Evaluate emerging technologies and digital health tools for integration into telepsychiatry workflows.
