The Associate Medical Director of Emergency Medicine provides day-to-day operational leadership, staffing oversight, and APP leadership across multiple sites. Key Responsibilities
- • Provide day-to-day operational leadership for Emergency Medicine across all sites in partnership with the Medical Director
- • Oversee providers staffing, scheduling, and workforce optimization to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient operations
- • Assist in recruitment, retention, and onboarding of Emergency Medicine physicians and advanced practice professionals partnering with both the Medical Director and APP Lead
- • Collaborate with nursing leadership, hospital administration, and ancillary services to ensure a coordinated team-based care delivery
- • Support a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement among physicians and APPs.
Required
- • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
- • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine required
- • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- • Eligible for medical staff appointment at Centra Health facilities
Preferred
- • Prior involvement in committee work, project leadership, or informal leadership roles, strongly preferred
- • Ability to lead through influence and foster a collaborative accountable team environment
- • Experience supporting or managing providers staffing models, scheduling, and workforce optimization efforts preferred
- • Proven ability to utilize data analytics to drive measurable improvement
Job Description
Centra Health seeks a dynamic and engaged physician leader to serve as the Associate Medical Director of Emergency Medicine, supporting the clinical and operational leadership of emergency services. This role works in close partnership with the Medical Director of Emergency Medicine and provides day-to-day oversight of operations, staffing, and Advanced Practice Professional (APP) leadership across multiple sites.
The Associate Medical Director plays a key role in ensuring consistent, high-quality, and patient-centered care delivery, with a strong emphasis on operational execution, provider engagement, and workforce management. This position supports emergency department performance by overseeing scheduling, optimizing staffing models, and collaborating with the APP Lead to maintain a cohesive, high-functioning care team.
Working closely with the Medical Director, hospital leadership, nursing, and administrative partners, the Associate Medical Director helps drive efficient patient flow, enhance access to care, and address operational challenges.
