Addiction Medicine Attending Physician

The role involves providing inpatient and outpatient specialty addiction medicine care through a variety of programs including hospital consultation, detoxification, emergency department bridge programs, community paramedicine, jail transition care, outpatient visits, and integrated addiction and infectious disease care. The physician will participate in clinical innovation, education, and research programs, focusing on urban underserved care and harm reduction within an academic healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient specialty care for individuals struggling with substance use disorders
  • Participate in hospital consultation service
  • Manage inpatient detoxification/stabilization and residential programs
  • Support emergency department and hospital bridge programs
  • Engage in community paramedicine and field buprenorphine initiation
  • Provide jail transition care
  • Conduct outpatient group and specialty medical visits
  • Operate a low barrier walk-in clinic
  • Run a wrap-around perinatal SUD program
  • Deliver dual diagnosis psychiatric and addiction medical care
  • Integrate addiction and infectious disease care including HIV and hepatitis C treatment
  • Contribute to clinical innovation, education, and research programs
  • Work with underserved populations using a harm reduction approach
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
Required
  • MD or DO from an accredited institution
  • Board certified or board eligible in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry
  • Active medical license

Preferred
  • Completed fellowship in addiction medicine

Unit Overview

Cooper University Health Care (CUHC) is seeking an academic addiction medicine physician to join our growing addiction medicine division.

Short Description

Cooper addiction medicine division is an interdisciplinary, medical specialty program within our university healthcare setting. Our division provides both inpatient and outpatient specialty care for individuals struggling with substance use disorders through a variety of programs including:

  • Hospital consultation service
  • Inpatient detoxification/stabilization and residential programs
  • Emergency department and hospital bridge programs
  • Community paramedicine and field buprenorphine initiation
  • Jail transition care
  • Outpatient group and specialty medical visits
  • A low barrier walk-in clinic
  • A wrap-around perinatal SUD program
  • Dual diagnosis psychiatric and addiction medical care
  • Integrated addiction and infectious disease care including HIV and hepatitis C treatment
  • Other innovative community work

We run several clinical innovation, education, and research programs.

The successful candidate should have a strong desire to shape the delivery of substance use disorder care and be versed in urban underserved care and harm reduction. This physician would report to the division head of addiction medicine and would have an academic appointment at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

Education Requirements

MD or DO from an accredited institution.

Preferred: completed fellowship in addiction medicine.

License/ Certification Requirements

Board certified or board eligible in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry.

Active medical license.
