- • Demonstrated ability in developing translational research from basic scientific observations to clinical trials or clinically relevant research

- • Secondary academic appointments in a basic science department or center to enhance scientific collaborations

Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Department of Ophthalmology in the School of Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, LA is accepting applications for an established, senior researcher in retinal disease, preferably retinitis pigmentosa. Candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor on the tenure track. The position requires an MD (or its equivalent), PhD or both. The faculty position is associated with an endowed chair, which is designated to enhance the scholarly productivity of the incumbent. Candidates must have an established track record of federal funding for their research program in retinal disease. The ideal incumbent must demonstrate recognized scholarly experience as evidenced by academic accomplishments, publications, service on national study sections, and service on editorial boards.
Candidates should have demonstrated ability in developing translational research from basic scientific observations to clinical trials or clinically relevant research. The incumbent will be appointed to Ophthalmology Department; secondary academic appointments in a basic science department or center will be considered to enhance the potential for scientific collaborations. Anticipated duties and responsibilities will include sustaining an exceptional research program, mentoring of graduate students/postdoctoral fellows, and participating in departmental and graduate and undergraduate teaching programs. Clinicians will also be expected to participate in care of patients and in our educational programs for students and residents and fellows.
