The Vice President of Quality & Patient Safety is responsible for advancing quality, patient safety, and performance excellence across the National Medical Center and Clinical Network. This role drives enterprise-wide initiatives that promote evidence-based, standardized care delivery, strengthens a culture of safety, and enhances the patient experience through collaboration with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide strategic leadership for quality and patient safety initiatives across the National Medical Center and Clinical Network
- • Develop, implement, and monitor system-wide quality metrics and outcomes to improve patient experience and care delivery
- • Inspire physician and care team engagement through collaboration, influence, and evidence-based practices
- • Strengthen and sustain a culture of patient safety through proactive risk assessments and continuous improvement efforts
- • Oversee benchmarking and performance analysis against national best practices and peer institutions
- • Lead accreditation and regulatory readiness efforts, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH, FACT, and other standards
- • Chair and support multidisciplinary quality, safety, and performance improvement committees
- • Deliver clear, data-driven quality and safety reporting to executive leadership to support strategic decision-making
Required
- • An MSN, PhD, Master’s degree, or equivalent advanced degree in a healthcare-related field
- • Seven to ten years of experience in quality, quality improvement, and patient safety within a complex, multi-site academic medical center (oncology preferred)
- • Five to seven years of progressive leadership experience overseeing quality or patient safety programs
- • A proven track record of leading enterprise-wide quality initiatives with sustainable, measurable results
- • Strong experience with regulatory, accreditation, and compliance standards and successful survey outcomes
- • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with strong executive presence
- • Ability to lead through influence, collaboration, and persuasion across diverse clinical and operational teams
Preferred
- • CPHQ certification and a current RN, MD, or DO license preferred

Working in close partnership with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams, this role is instrumental in positioning City of Hope as a national and international leader in high‑quality, value‑based care.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership for quality and patient safety initiatives across the National Medical Center and Clinical Network
- Develop, implement, and monitor system‑wide quality metrics and outcomes to improve patient experience and care delivery
