The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides enterprise-wide leadership for clinical strategy, quality, patient safety, and care delivery across all service lines. The role involves shaping the clinical model, strengthening governance and quality infrastructure, ensuring alignment with value-based care principles, and co-leading service line performance and organizational culture in partnership with the COO. The CMO also serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board, mentors Clinical Directors, and represents the organization externally to community partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide enterprise-wide leadership for clinical strategy, quality, patient safety, and care delivery across all service lines
- • Advance the organization’s mission to improve access and outcomes for the communities served
- • Lead at the system level balancing clinical excellence, regulatory accountability, operational performance, and physician engagement
- • Shape the organization’s clinical model and strengthen governance and quality infrastructure
- • Ensure care delivery aligns with value-based care principles, compliance requirements, and long-term organizational sustainability
- • Operate in a dyad partnership with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to co-lead service line performance, organizational culture, and the patient experience
- • Provide direct oversight and mentorship of Clinical Directors across service lines
- • Establish clinical standards, drive accountability, and ensure consistency in quality, safety, and patient-centered care delivery throughout the system
- • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board, bringing a physician voice to strategic decision-making
- • Build strong, aligned clinical leadership structures that support provider engagement, professional practice excellence, and sustainable growth
- • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement
- • Support clinical teams and operational partners in achieving shared goals
- • Serve as a visible external clinical leader representing the organization with community partners, health systems, payers, and key stakeholders
- • Strengthen strategic partnerships, support growth initiatives, and advance collaborative efforts to improve community health outcomes
- • Perform up to 20% clinical practice based on mutual agreement and organizational needs
Required
- • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) with active, unrestricted license
- • Board certification in a relevant specialty
- • Minimum of eight (8) years of clinical experience
- • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive clinical leadership experience
Preferred
- • Experience in community health, FQHC, or value-based care environments preferred
- • Advanced training or experience in healthcare leadership, administration, or organizational development (e.g., MBA, MMM, MHA, or similar) preferred
