The Correctional Psychiatrist manages and provides leadership for mental health services within a correctional facility, delivering comprehensive psychiatric care to inmates. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, prescribing medications, creating treatment plans, maintaining medical records, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care.
Key Responsibilities
- • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments to diagnose mental health disorders among the incarcerated population.
- • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications ensuring that treatment plans are effective and adjusted as needed.
- • Create individualized treatment plans that include medication management, psychotherapy, and other interventions appropriate for the correctional setting.
- • Prepare progress reports; provide recommendations regarding discharge plans; make case presentations; and assist administrative and medical staff in development of statistical reports on assigned inmates/residents.
- • Maintain up to date medical records, ensuring compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and standards of care.
- • Maintain and monitor confidentiality of inmates/residents and their files; audit files to determine that all services provided are documented; review status of inmates/residents to verify that all treatment and therapeutic programs are completed.
- • Review, process and respond (via corporate counsel) to lawsuits; provide expert testimony or psychiatric evaluations for legal proceedings involving inmates under your care.
- • Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents, including the processing of such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons and other legal writs.
- • Work closely with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and correctional staff to provide integrated and coordinated care.
- • Provide immediate psychiatric care in crisis situations, such as suicide attempts or acute psychiatric episodes, and work to prevent incidents through proactive mental health management.
- • Endeavor to comply with the requirements of applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards and/or contract.
Required
- • Active and unrestricted license in the state of CA.
- • Board Certified or Eligible (within 1 year of residency completion) in Psychiatry.
- • Active CA DEA required.
- • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks and credentialing, including screening in accordance with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) standards, as applicable.
- • Excellent skills in diagnostic assessment and counseling.
- • Sound clinical judgment, professionalism, and independence.
- • Valid Driver's License.

Correctional Psychiatrist - On-Site
MindCare Solutions, is a leader in comprehensive mental health solutions in various settings: clinician owned and operated. We are seeking a Correctional Psychiatrist to manage the operation and provides overall direction and leadership for the provision of the mental health services in the facility. This position has the primary responsibility of providing administrative and clinical coordination for the comprehensive mental health care program for the inmates/residents.
Compensation: negotiable (dependent upon contract type)
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Schedule: P/T or F/T (dayshift)
Position Summary
