Works under broad direction to plan, organize, direct, and participate in major research projects in a specialized field. Collaborates with experimental and clinical labs to study biological and biomedical problems related to TSG syndrome-associated developmental abnormalities, tumorigenesis, neural stem cells, and tumors in the nervous system. Works with bioinformatics teams to analyze cancer genomics data and identify predictive biomarkers or drug targets.
Key Responsibilities
- • Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and personally participates in major medical or scientific research project, including development and implementation of research protocols.
- • Selects key research personnel; determines specific goals or objectives to be attained; assigns and reviews work of subordinates.
- • Reviews and analyzes resulting research data; revises techniques or approaches to work problems as indicated necessary by research data.
- • Compiles, writes, and submits project results to principal investigator or department chairman.
- • Prepares or assists in preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as one of co-authors.
- • Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.
- • Plans and supervises training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures.
- • Confers with industrial, governmental, or other groups concerning progress or results of research project.
- • Supervises large group of employees engaged in performance of technical and professional work, which varies from routine to complex laboratory work tasks.
- • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required
- • Education PhD with major coursework in field of assignment or Master's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment or Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment
- • 6 years research experience in field of assignment; including at 1 year at the level of Research Scientist or its equivalent with a PhD or 9 years research experience in field of assignment; including at least 2 years at level of Research Scientist or its equivalent with Master's degree or 12 years of research experience in field of assignment; including at least 4 years at level of Research Scientist or its equivalent with Bachelor's degree
- • Attention to detail, time management, effective communication skills, ability to problem solve and work independently, teamwork, customer/client service, and professionalism.
- • Minimum working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Preferred
- • Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or degree in Biology/Genetics/neuroscience.
- • Research experience in neuroscience, cancer biology, single-cell genomics and childhood diseases desirable.
