Adjunct Professor - Biology

Teach Biology lecture and laboratory sections in Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Microbiology. Maintain proactive contact with student advisees to support academic and career goal setting, monitor academic progress, and assist with course registration and sequencing to promote student persistence to graduation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Biology lecture and laboratory sections in Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Microbiology.
  • Maintain direct and proactive contact with student advisees including meeting with individuals and small groups to build rapport, identify barriers to success, set and review academic and career goals, and develop action plans focused on student persistence to graduation.
  • Participate in student success activities such as New Student Orientation and campus-wide student engagement activities.
  • Convey and discuss curriculum, course sequencing, academic status, registration, and the importance of long-term career and academic planning with students.
  • Assist students with registration and provide guidance in course selection to ensure optimal course sequencing.
  • Monitor academic progress of students by analyzing progress reports from instructors and registrar, identifying needs or problem areas, and referring students to appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Communicate findings regarding student progress to deans.
  • Document all pertinent student information including attendance and update student information system regarding changes to student status.
  • Support key departmental operations including tracking statistics, retention assessment, and proper file documentation to ensure retention initiatives and goals are met.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to address and manage student challenges and needs.
Required
  • Master’s degree in Biology or Zoology, or doctorate in medical (MD) or rehabilitation field.
  • Teaching experience with diverse adults, preferably within community college, career college or undergrad environments.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Professional experience in the science/healthcare/rehabilitation fields.
  • Must be available for evening weekday classes.
The Virginia Beach Campus Of Bryant & Stratton College Is Seeking Adjunct Professors To Teach Biology Lecture And Laboratory Sections In The Following Areas

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Pathophysiology
  • Microbiology

Maintain direct and proactive contact with student advisees. This includes meeting with individuals as well as small groups on an ongoing basis to build rapport, identify barriers to success, set, and review (and revise when necessary) academic and career goals, participate in pertinent student success activities (i.e. New Student Orientation, campus-wide student engagement activities) and develop action plans for related success with a focus on student persistence to graduation.

Convey to and discuss with students, the necessary aspects of curriculum, course sequencing, academic status, registration, and the importance of long-term career and academic planning. Assist students with registration/provide guidance in course selection to assure optimal (following the prescribed approach) course sequencing to best assure student persistence to graduation.

Monitor academic progress of students; analyzes progress reports from instructors and registrar; identifies current and potential needs or problem areas and refers students to appropriate campus and outside community resources for assistance; communicates findings to deans.

Document all pertinent student information (i.e. attendance); updates student information system regarding changes to student status and support all key departmental operations including tracking statistics, retention assessment proper file documentation to ensure that retention initiatives and goals are obtained.

Work collaboratively with other departments, to assure that student challenges and needs are addressed and managed.

Requirements
