The Field Training Partner for Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for developing, delivering, and managing training and continuous education for field-based medical teams. This role acts as the primary training and performance enablement link between the home office and the field, ensuring consistent messaging, skill development, and execution of company strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- • Design and facilitate comprehensive remote and in-person onboarding programs for all new medical hires, ensuring they are proficient in all required business processes and tools and product knowledge.
- • Develop and deliver ongoing training modules (webinars, in-person workshops, e-learning) on topics including new product launches, competitive updates, account management, compliance, and technology utilization.
- • Act as a high-energy, credible facilitator for live training sessions, including regional sales meetings and national training events.
- • Conduct regular training analyses through field observations, data analysis, and trusted relationships with Managers to identify learning plans for business transformation, skill gaps, performance opportunities, and leadership development.
- • Perform scheduled and ad-hoc field visits/ride-alongs to observe field medical team members, provide immediate and constructive coaching, and model effective customer engagement behaviors.
- • Partner with Field Medical leadership to create and implement targeted development plans for individuals and teams needing focused improvement.
- • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) liaison between the field and home office departments (Marketing, Operations, Product) to translate complex information into clear, actionable training content.
- • Maintain and update training materials, job aids, and the Learning Management System (LMS) content to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- • Track and report on key training effectiveness metrics (e.g., knowledge checks, post-training performance data) and provide recommendations for program refinement.
- • Build close trusted relationships with executive sponsors and key stakeholders for field learning plans including business transformation, and leadership development.
Required
- • You have a Clinical degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent)
- • You have 3+ years in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, field training, sales enablement and account management, preferably within a remote/regional structure.
- • 3+ years demonstrated experience leading deliverables across a remote team, and can quickly organize functional teams to design and develop learning projects.
- • Deep understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
- • Exceptional presentation, communication, and virtual/in-person facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- • High proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and virtual training platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
- • Up to 50% regional/home office travel required to conduct in-person training, ride-alongs, and regional meetings.

The Opportunity
The Field Training Partner for Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a critical, high-impact role responsible for developing, delivering, and managing training and continuous education for our field-based medical teams. This Field Training Partner for MSL position serves as the primary training and performance enablement link between the home office (HQ) and the field, ensuring consistent messaging, skill development, and execution of company strategy. The ideal candidate is a dynamic facilitator, instructional design enthusiast, and proven subject matter expert in field medical. This role is a key member of the Learning & Skill Development team and will report into the Sr. Director of Medical.

This is a field-based position. Overnight travel may be required. This position requires significant driving of either a company provided or personal vehicle as well as prolonged periods of sitting, both of which are part of the essential duties and responsibilities of the role. As a result, Genentech, Inc. (Company) from time to time will check your motor vehicle record for purposes of determining your eligibility for driving a Company vehicle or driving any vehicle on Company business
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $138,000/yr to $256,400/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
