Child Abuse Pediatrician

The role is for a board certified/eligible child abuse pediatrician to join the Child Maltreatment Section in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. The position focuses on growing inpatient and outpatient child maltreatment clinical programs, participating in resident and medical student education, and may include additional clinical opportunities and leadership responsibilities based on the candidate’s interests and experience.

Position Summary

The Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine ( GPAM ) at the University of North Carolina is recruiting a BC/BE child abuse pediatrician to join the Child Maltreatment Section. This individual would help to grow the inpatient and outpatient child maltreatment clinical program and participate in resident and medical student education. Other clinical opportunities would also be incorporated into the faculty position based on interests of the candidate. The development of other areas of faculty expertise relevant to child abuse and neglect is encouraged. Depending on the experience of the candidate, additional duties may include a leadership role within a component of the Child Maltreatment Section. This recruitment is for an Open rank, fixed term, 0.5 to 1.0 FTE Academic appointment that will be offered commensurate with the candidates experience.

The Child Maltreatment Section is a diverse team that currently includes two board certified child abuse pediatricians, three generalist pediatricians, one nurse practitioner and two social workers. The division has innovative programs in clinical care and advocacy, an active research portfolio, and a strong emphasis on education both locally and in a statewide program that assures the quality of evaluations done through the state.

The GPAM division is one of the largest in the Department of Pediatrics and includes child maltreatment, outpatient care, adolescent medicine and other affiliated specialty services such as development/behavioral pediatrics. The division has a nationally-known and productive research program in addition to a long record of teaching excellence. The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina is an attractive place to live and work with great climate, schools, and both mountains and beaches within a day drive. Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Specific requirements for competitive applicants include being board certified/eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics and having fellowship or equivalent post-residency training.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

This position entails clinical consults in inpatient and outpatient clinics. This position would be an excellent fit for a early career faculty member with a strong interest in education and clinical work.
