Psychiatry Nocturnist –CPEP

Provide overnight psychiatric care across Inpatient Psychiatry Units and the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP). The role focuses on psychiatric assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, and ensuring continuity of care and safety during night shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, and treatment initiation for patients presenting to CPEP overnight.
  • Supervise psychiatric residents, physician assistants, and other trainees during overnight hours.
  • Collaborate with nursing, social work, and security staff to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care.
  • Make admission, discharge, and transfer decisions in collaboration with inpatient and outpatient psychiatry teams.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and communication with day team for continuity of care.
  • Cover inpatient units for any behavioral health related emergencies.
  • Uphold hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Contribute to performance improvement initiatives in CPEP.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case discussions and staff support.
  • Serve as clinical lead for overnight psychiatric emergencies and crisis management.
Required
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of New York.
  • Excellent crisis management, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential along with the ability to problem solve.
Preferred
  • Prior experience in emergency psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, or crisis services strongly preferred.

  • Full-time position with the schedule option of either Monday through Thursday nights, or Friday through Sunday nights (full-time equivalent schedule).
  • Typical shift hours: 8:00 pm–8:00am.
  • No daytime clinical responsibilities.

  • Annual Base Salary: $289,000-$340,000.

  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement ranging from $3000-$3500 inclusive of one week of paid CME time.
  • Projected annual revenue sharing payments of up to $30,000 contingent upon meeting required productivity and compliance metrics.

Woodhull Medical Center, an affiliate of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, is a 310-bed community hospital providing primary, specialty and acute care services to the residents of Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, and North Brooklyn.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Psychiatry Nocturnist to provide overnight psychiatric care across our Inpatient Psychiatry Units and Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP). The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality psychiatric assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention during overnight hours. This position plays a vital role in ensuring continuity of care and safety for our behavioral health patients during night shifts. This would be a great opportunity for supplementing your income while having another day job.
