Lead, Innate Immunity Cancer Cell Death Biology

This role supports antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) research in oncology by contributing scientific input across multiple discovery programs while managing and developing a team of scientists. It also provides operational support to the Head of Innate Immunity & Cancer Cell Death Biology and helps shape research direction and new project opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific input and review for multiple ADC discovery projects from pharmacology and biology perspectives
  • Collaborate with project leads to support study design, data interpretation, and decision-making
  • Apply prior experience in ADC and antibody research to improve overall project quality and execution
  • Contribute to new project ideation by assessing feasibility and scientific rationale
  • Line-manage scientists, including day-to-day supervision, coaching, and performance management
  • Support team members’ development and optimize role assignments based on strengths
  • Foster a collaborative and open team environment to enhance communication and productivity
  • Support the Head of Innate Immunity & Cancer Cell Death Biology in research and team operations
  • Ensure appropriate communication of project progress and challenges to facilitate decision-making
  • Promote effective collaboration with cross-functional partners (e.g., chemistry, biologics, DMPK)
Required
  • PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in pharmacology, oncology, immunology, or related life science field
  • Approximately 8+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech drug discovery
  • Hands-on experience in antibody and ADC research
  • Experience leading antibody and/or ADC projects as a project leader
  • Prior people management or team leadership experience
  • Solid understanding of pharmacology, including in vitro and in vivo evaluation and mechanism of action
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams

  • Player-coach mindset with the ability to contribute scientifically while managing a team
  • Strong collaborative and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive, flexible, and able to work effectively in a dynamic environment
  • High integrity and strong sense of accountability
  • Author of over 8 peer-reviewed publications in biology

Purpose & Scope

This position supports antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) research in oncology by contributing to multiple discovery programs while managing and developing a team of scientists. Reporting to the Head of Innate Immunity & Cancer Cell Death Biology, the People Manager will balance project support with people management to enhance the quality and efficiency of ADC research. The role also serves as a key support to the Head by providing practical scientific and operational input into research direction and new project opportunities.

 

Role and Responsibilities

Scientific Contribution

  • Provide scientific input and review for multiple ADC discovery projects from pharmacology and biology perspectives

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Location and Working Environment

  • This position is based in South San Francisco and will require on-site work/management in principle.
  • Participation in meetings scheduled for early mornings and late nights is regularly required.

Salary Range

$145,460-$207,800 (Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and organizational equity considerations)
