The Chief will provide leadership and collaboration with the overall operations of the Service both clinically and administratively. The role involves coordinating spinal cord injury services, supporting education and trainee supervision, and maintaining clinical practice in the major specialty field.

Summary

The VA North Texas Health Care System is currently seeking a Podiatrist (Chief - Spinal Cord Injury Service). The Chief will provide leadership and collaboration with the overall operations of the Service both clinically and administratively. Recruitment or Relocation Incentive May be Authorized for highly qualified individual. Education Debt Reduction Program is authorized.

Duties

  • This is an Open Continuous Announcement & will remain open until May 25 - 2027 - or until all positions are filled
  • The first cut-off date is June 09 - 2026

  • The Spinal Cord Injury Service provides comprehensive rehabilitation services along a continuum of care from ambulatory - acute - to long term care in the local community or VA Community Living Center (CLC)
  • Spinal Cord Injury services are provided by interdisciplinary teams of rehabilitation professionals that may include - but are not limited to physicians - residency physicians - physician assistants - occupational therapists - physical therapists - kinesiotherapists - pharmacists - nurses and medical students
  • Services may be provided in an individual - group - or telehealth setting
  • Telehealth services are provided to satellite VA and VA contract clinics
  • Spinal Service collaborates with the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Unit which also provides acute medical and rehabilitation care
  • The Spinal Cord Injury PM&R residents are affiliated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (UTSW) - Department of Rehabilitation Medicine
  • The Paralyzed Veterans of America is an active stakeholder in the operational aspects of Spinal Cord Injury Services
  • The Chief of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is expected to remain privileged and practicing in his/her major specialty field
  • The Chief of SCI functions as liaison to ACOS for Education for UME/GME issues and ensures orientation to service rotation for program trainees (residents/students)
  • The practitioner is expected to show effectiveness in teaching - monitoring and coordinating education activities - and maintaining compliance with ACGME trainee supervision requirements
  • Administrative duties may include - but are not limited to Leadership responsibilities - HR Management - Staff Management - Time/Leave Management - Business Planning - and Clinical Management responsibilities
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am-4:30pm Telework: Ad-Hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position
