The Executive Director works with the Faculty Director to set and execute the vision, objectives, and goals for the O’Neill Institute. The role combines strategic planning, staff supervision, fundraising, programming, sponsored research, communications, and stewardship of the Institute’s operations and finances.
Key Responsibilities

Required
- • Possess a J.D., Ph.D., M.D., MBA or terminal degree.
- • At least seven years of senior or executive leadership experience.
- • Skilled in fundraising and development.
- • Demonstrated expertise in program building and management, sponsored research, and academic administration.
- • An innovative thinker in possession of independent judgment, accountability, impeccable integrity, sense of fairness, and expert experience in interactions with a diverse range of people and interests.
- • The Institute seeks an individual who thrives in a team environment
- • Should possess excellent communication, organizational, financial, and leadership skills
- • Should be able to take initiative, implement vision, resolve problems, and advance the mission and vision of the Institute
- • Should have experience and expertise collaborating with government agencies, international organizations, civil society or think tank partners
- • Should also have successful experience in programming and convening both high-level and more localized events (such as roundtables, colloquia, and symposia)
- • Will have knowledge of leading scholars, authors, and researchers in the field to build partnerships and collaborations
- • Will have both national and global experience and will have previously served on a 501c3 board or boards, with an understanding of fiduciary responsibilities, organizational governance, delegation of responsibilities, and working with others in leadership
- • Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors and volunteers.
