Medical and Resident Education - Associate or Professor

The role focuses on medical and resident education, with an emphasis on excellent teaching, pedagogical contributions, program building, curricular innovation, and administrative teaching leadership. The successful candidate will help lead the department’s teaching and educational program building activities and contribute to training and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and other trainees.

The Department of Medicine at Stanford University seeks a seasoned academic faculty member in Medical and Resident Education to be appointed at the rank of associate or professor in the Non-Tenure Line (Teaching). We are particularly interested in candidates who have compiled a record of excellent teaching and pedagogical contributions including didactic teaching, advising, mentoring, program building, curricular innovation and administrative teaching leadership. 

The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Teaching) is evidence of high-level performance as a teacher for whose knowledge and pedagogical skills serve a programmatic need that exists within the Department of medicine. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful applicant should have either a MD, a PhD, or combined MD/PhD or equivalent. Board certification or eligibility in internal medicine and in any of its sub-specialties is preferred for candidates with clinical interest. Candidates with clinical activities will need to possess or be willing to obtain a California Medical License. 

We are seeking dynamic, creative individuals to lead the teaching and educational program building activities of the department. Successful and qualified candidates will exhibit accomplishment in didactic teaching and program development. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to our education and teaching mission through training and mentoring of medical students, residents, fellows and other trainees in graduate programs associated with the Stanford University School of Medicine.

The expected base pay ranges for likely disciplines are listed below. Associate: $304,000 – $317,000
Professor: $327,000 – $370,000


Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care Medicine
Associate: $288,000 – $342,000
Professor: $344,000 – $394,000


Gastroenterelogy and Hepatology:
Associate: $351,000 – $373,000
Professor: $393,000 – $463,000

 This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
