This role supports advanced scientific discovery through specialized mass spectrometry imaging and molecular analysis capabilities. It involves designing and executing experiments, processing and analyzing data, and supporting reporting, documentation, and manuscript preparation in a collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- • Collaborate with researchers and the Core Director to design experiments aligned with research objectives
- • Execute experiments including sample preparation, data acquisition, and analysis workflows
- • Communicate experimental results clearly to scientific stakeholders
- • Monitor laboratory workflow to ensure timely project progression
- • Track and manage supply inventory to support operational needs
- • Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration activities
- • Record and evaluate data in accordance with requested scientific methods
- • Process raw data to generate molecular images
- • Perform basic statistical analysis and region of interest (ROI) analysis
- • Assist with preparation of reports and documentation of findings
- • Support manuscript preparation for scientific publications
- • Perform other duties as assigned to support core operations and research initiatives
Required
- • Master's Degree Natural sciences or related field
- • 4 years Experimental or scientific work
- • 2 years Experimental or scientific work with medical degree
- • No experience required with PhD

- • Mass Spectrometry experience strongly preferred

The Research Scientist Mass Spectrometry Imaging Core plays a critical role in enabling researchers to design and execute studies that leverage cutting-edge mass spectrometry imaging technologies within the Mass Spectrometry Imaging Core in alignment with the Core Director's vision and strategic goals.
The Research Scientist Mass Spectrometry Imaging Core at UT MD Anderson contributes to a world-renowned institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Research Scientist Mass Spectrometry Imaging Core operates in a collaborative, high-impact environment where scientific rigor and innovation are essential to advancing research outcomes.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience in mass spectrometry, including MALDI techniques, data interpretation, and instrumentation, along with preferred exposure to imaging applications, tissue handling, and programming in R or Python. A background in metabolomics, proteomics, or related disciplines is beneficial, along with the ability to contribute to experimental design, troubleshoot technical issues, and communicate results effectively.
Minimum $32.93 - Midpoint $41.11 - Maximum $49.28
