Director of Pediatric Anesthesiology

This role provides clinical leadership for pediatric anesthesia services, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative management, and postoperative pain control for infants, children, and adolescents. It also involves supervising and mentoring anesthesia team members, developing protocols, promoting patient safety, and collaborating with multiple specialties to coordinate perioperative care.

Key Responsibilities
  • provide clinical leadership for pediatric anesthesia services

  • education and training programs
  • may engage in research, scholarly activities, and institutional committees to advance pediatric anesthesiology within the hospital and the wider Northwell Health system
Required
  • Board certification in Anesthesiology with subspecialty fellowship training and board certification/eligibility in Pediatric Anesthesiology
  • Current, unrestricted New York State medical license (or eligibility) and DEA registration
  • Extensive clinical experience in pediatric anesthesiology across a range of ages, acuity levels, and surgical subspecialties, including experience with regional anesthesia and advanced airway management
  • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities, including team supervision, service line oversight, and participation in departmental or hospital governance
  • Experience in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and development or implementation of clinical pathways and protocols
  • Commitment to teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, medical students, and other learners, with a record of educational involvement in academic or teaching settings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families in a diverse community
Preferred
  • Scholarly activity or interest in research, clinical innovation, or program development in pediatric anesthesiology is highly desirable
  • Eligibility for academic appointment through Northwell Health’s affiliated medical school

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Staten Island, NY, for a Director of Pediatric Anesthesiology. The Director will provide clinical leadership for pediatric anesthesia services, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative management, and postoperative pain control for infants, children, and adolescents. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring attending anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and other team members to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care. The role involves developing and standardizing protocols, promoting patient safety, and collaborating with pediatric surgery, critical care, emergency medicine, and other specialties to coordinate perioperative care. The Director will participate in strategic planning, quality improvement initiatives, education and training programs, and may engage in research, scholarly activities, and institutional committees to advance pediatric anesthesiology within the hospital and the wider Northwell Health system.

Qualifications

  • Board certification in Anesthesiology with subspecialty fellowship training and board certification/eligibility in Pediatric Anesthesiology.
