Physician - Critical Care Pulmonologist

Clinical faculty role in Internal Medicine Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine providing hospital-based clinical services for patients at Chandler and Good Samaritan Hospitals and the division’s clinical service. The position includes care for critically ill patients in Medical Intensive Care units, outpatient clinic management, teaching pulmonary fellows, residents and students, and participation in clinical committees and department activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • primarily provide hospital-based clinical services for patients cared for at Chandler and Good Samaritan Hospitals and the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine division’s clinical service
  • Clinical service responsibilities will be divided among assignments caring for the critically ill in our Medical Intensive Care units (MICU) in the UK HealthCare hospitals
  • managing patients in outpatient clinics
  • be involved with teaching pulmonary fellows, residents and students during consult service and inpatient services
  • participation in the Department’s courses for medical students
  • be an active participant and leader of division and department clinical activities

Job Summary

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is seeking clinical faculty for Internal Medicine Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine division who will primarily provide hospital-based clinical services for patients cared for at Chandler and Good Samaritan Hospitals and the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine division’s clinical service.

Clinical service responsibilities will be divided among assignments caring for the critically ill in our Medical Intensive Care units ( MICU ) in the UK HealthCare hospitals, and managing patients in outpatient clinics. this position will be involved with teaching pulmonary fellows, residents and students during consult service and inpatient services and participation in the Department’s courses for medical students.

The individual will be expected to be an active participant and leader of division and department clinical activities, as well as, serve on clinical committees that enhance the care of patients and operation of clinical practice.

About The Department Of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine is the largest in the College of Medicine and at the University of Kentucky with approximately 334 faculty, 157 staff, 214 residents and fellows, and 203 advanced practice providers. The department has 14 clinical divisions and 2 non-clinical divisions within its scope. The department of internal medicine is led by Dr. Darwin L. Conwell, MD, MS, FACG and departmental leaders including Vice Chairs, Associate Vice Chairs, and the Office of the Chair Administration team.

Internal Medicine faculty secure over $35 million in grant funding annually to pursue cutting-edge research and discoveries, supporting projects in all internal medicine subspecialties. The department has published 287 peer-reviewed articles in the past year and maintains more than 50 active clinical trials and 240 active grants and contracts. The Department of Internal Medicine has 211 faculty who are actively involved in research activities and supervise biomedical learners, including PhD and master’s students, to gain in-depth experience in high-impact research labs.
