Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice, Surgery-Trauma

Provides faculty support to meet the teaching, research, and patient care needs of the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. The role includes direct patient care, participation in teaching activities, house staff supervision, and administrative responsibilities such as supervising and evaluating residents and participating in committee memberships.

Key Responsibilities

  • provide direct patient care, including ICU/Critical Care, surgery, consultative services, outpatient services, care of hospitalized patients
  • participating in call coverage, including in-house ICU coverage in League City and in-house trauma coverage in Galveston
  • participates in all teaching activities of the Department including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching, and rounds
  • house staff supervision in the operating room, clinics, and in-patient services
  • continuing medical education
  • local, regional, and national meetings
  • supervising and evaluating residents
  • providing medical direction
  • participating in committee memberships at the Departmental and Health System level
Required
  • graduate of an approved medical school
  • completed an approved residency training program
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Trauma Surgery
  • have a Texas Medical license without restrictions
JOB DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to provide faculty support to meet the teaching, research, and patient care needs of the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, and assist in fulfilling UTMB’s threefold mission.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The purpose of this position is to provide faculty support to meet the teaching, research, and patient care needs of the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, and assist in fulfilling UTMB's threefold mission. The person in this position is responsible for providing direct patient care, including ICU/Critical Care, surgery, consultative services, outpatient services, care of hospitalized patients, and participating in call coverage, including in-house ICU coverage in League City and in-house trauma coverage in Galveston. He/she participates in all teaching activities of the Department including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching, and rounds; house staff supervision in the operating room, clinics, and in-patient services; continuing medical education; and local, regional, and national meetings. Students include medical students, house staff, nursing, and allied health students. In addition, the person in this position will have administrative responsibilities including supervising and evaluating residents, providing medical direction, and participating in committee memberships at the Departmental and Health System level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should be a graduate of an approved medical school, have completed an approved residency training program, be Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Trauma Surgery, and have a Texas Medical license without restrictions.

SALARY:

Commensurate with experience.
