Medical Director
Provide direct and indirect basic medical care to meet the physiological and emotional needs of patients and ensure quality care within a correctional facility. Work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to conduct rounds, manage sick call and chronic care, respond to medical emergencies, and help maintain compliance with applicable mandates and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- • Conducting rounds in the medical and infirmary units
- • Performing sick call visits, and managing chronic care
- • Responding to and initiating care for medical emergencies
- • Leading efforts to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of healthcare services
- • Coordinating, leading and participating in educational and training activities
- • May supervise Staff Physicians and other medical staff
- • Ensuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards
- • Collaborating on with other medical professionals to ensure staff are responsive to patients’ needs
Required
- • Medical degree (MD or DO)
- • Valid license as a physician in the state where the facility is located
- • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required)
- • Possess a current DEA registration
- • Currently certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
- • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- • Experience in general medicine, a strong knowledge of current medical principles and practices, and the ability to manage and direct medical team
- • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
- • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
