Research Laboratory Director

The CNRI Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall operation and administration of a research laboratory, including personnel employment and training, research operations, and compliance with applicable regulations. The role also supports basic and applied research, quality improvement projects, development of new research objectives, technologies and therapies, and serves as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders to identify new sources of revenue and represent the research program professionally.

  • serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders
  • responsible for identifying new sources of revenue for the program, including grant funding, philanthropy, or manufacturing service contracts
  • represent the research program, and institution in a professional way and participate regionally, nationally and internationally in a manner that demonstrates the expertise, research, and novel researches and therapies available in the hospital

  • Participates in research committees, workshop special interest groups
  • Consistently demonstrates adherence with the standards for the ethical and responsible conduct of research
  • Plans, conducts, and manages research projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies
  • Responsible for appropriate use of research funds
  • Supervises, trains and mentors staff, students and junior faculty
  • Mentors, graduate/post-doctoral students and faculty
  • Participates in educational programs and teaching assignments

  • Medical Doctor (M.D.) (Required)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) In a scientific discipline (Required)
  • 3 years of progressive, specialized experience in a field of research

Reporting to a Children's National Research Institute (CNRI) Principal Investigator or Research Center Director, the CNRI Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall operation and administration of a research laboratory, including the employment and training of personnel who are competent to perform research procedures, record and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently, and for assuring compliance with the applicable regulations. This includes operations of a research laboratory including basic and applied research projects, quality improvement projects within the lab, and the development of new research objectives, technologies and therapies that ultimately improve patient care. The research laboratory director encourages team members to use the scientific method to push the boundaries of human knowledge and develop new treatments and technologies. The individual will serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders and will be responsible for identifying new sources of revenue for the program, including grant funding, philanthropy, or manufacturing service contracts. He/she will represent the research program, and institution in a professional way and participate regionally, nationally and internationally in a manner that demonstrates the expertise, research, and novel researches and therapies available in the hospital.

Minimum Education

Medical Doctor (M.D.) (Required) Or

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children’s National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual’s combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications. Children’s National is committed to providing a fair and competitive total rewards package to each of our employees. This base salary range does not include our comprehensive benefits package or any additional compensation for which this position may be eligible.
