Medical Director
The Medical Director provides psychiatric oversight and clinical governance for Thompson’s North Carolina programs. This is an administrative and supervisory role that complements a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and focuses on clinical quality, compliance, and oversight of high-risk cases.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide psychiatric oversight and clinical governance for Thompson’s North Carolina programs
- • Ensure clinical quality and compliance
- • Ensure appropriate treatment approaches
- • Provide oversight of high-risk cases
- • Ensure alignment with evidence-based psychiatric practices
- • Ensure administrative requirements are complete for medical necessity documentation
- • Participation in key meetings (virtual or onsite as needed)
- • Rotating on call after hours coverage with Psychiatric NP
Required
- • Medical Degree (MD or DO)
- • Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist in North Carolina
- • Active NC medical license
- • Enrolled and in good standing with NC Medicaid
- • Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric care
- • Valid driver’s license
- • Ability to meet credentialing and privileging standards
- • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
- • child/adolescent experience preferred

- Part Time 5–8 hours per week
- Flexible / hybrid structure depending on operational needs
- Participation in key meetings (virtual or onsite as needed)
- Rotating on call after hours coverage with Psychiatric NP
- Starting Pay Range: $150.00-$250 hourly
