NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
The role leads a new bureau within the Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness, supporting the broader Neighborhood Health Strategy across Queens and future work in Staten Island. It involves building the bureau’s structure, programs, partnerships, and funding strategy while launching the Jamaica Health Action Center and aligning work to agency priorities and measurable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- • Provide leadership for staff in a new bureau, including senior director, director, manager and support-level staff.
- • Provide leadership to programs with clinical guidance and, as necessary.
- • Developing, implementing, and revising the bureau’s strategic plan, including logic model, to align with Agency and Divisional priorities and measurable outcomes.
- • Defining the bureau’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives in alignment with other bureaus of Neighborhood Health.
- • Developing performance metrics and evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness and impact.
- • Overseeing recruitment, onboarding, and development of a high-performing team to support bureau programming and operations.
- • Establishing organizational structure, workflows, and processes for efficient service delivery.
- • Overseeing launch of a Jamaica Health Action Center, including coordination and collaboration with internal and external partners.
- • Developing a prospective roadmap for work on Staten Island, including funding proposals.
- • Identifying funding opportunities and leading the development of competitive grant proposals and pitches to secure resources, including in partnership with Agency partners.
- • Designing and launching programs that address needs of specific neighborhoods in Queens driven by data on inequities; programming areas may include chronic disease prevention and management and maternal health.
- • Engaging with community stakeholders to ensure programs are responsive, equitable, and impactful.
- • Representing the bureau, division, and Agency, as needed, and building relationships with internal and external partners.
- • Advocating for the bureau’s initiatives and priorities within the agency and broader community.
- • Partnering closely with other bureaus within CHECW and across the agency to increase neighborhood investments by using data-driven strategy, program optimization, and augmenting current available services.
- • Serving in an emergency activation role in the agency’s Incident Command System and support other emergency operations as needed.
- • Serving as key advisor to the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners and other leadership staff in the agency.
Required
- • Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York plus valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in an approved medical specialty; and four years of medical practice including one year of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or
- • A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that listed in "1" above.
- • All candidates must have a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and one year of medical practice in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
