Hospice and Palliative Physician

The Hospice and Palliative Physician manages patient care through telehealth and in-person visits, serving as the hospice attending physician and providing consultations for community physicians and BCN Nurse Practitioners. The role also involves medically necessary and recertification visits, after-hours and weekend call rotations, triage coverage during the week, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.

  • completing certifications, recertifications, pre-authorizations, medical forms, and death certificates in compliance with BCN policies and federal and state hospice regulations
Required
  • Licensed to practice medicine in Kentucky and holds an active DEA license
  • Board-certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology, or a relevant medical specialty
  • Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or a minimum of two years post-residency medical experience required
  • Compliance with BCN employee health, infectious disease, and vaccination policies required
  • Licensed driver with a reliable, insured vehicle meeting state requirements
  • Strong ability to work as part of a large interdisciplinary team, with excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Familiarity with quality management principles and ethical issues in hospice and palliative care
Preferred
  • Hospice and Palliative Medicine certification preferred
  • two years of hospice or palliative care experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable in the principles, philosophy, and technical aspects of hospice and palliative care, with expertise in pain and symptom management preferred

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional weekend and afterhours on-call shifts

The role includes performing medically necessary and recertification visits, participating in after-hours and weekend call rotations, and serving as a triage physician during the week. The physician collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in care planning and ensures continuity of care. Responsibilities also include completing certifications, recertifications, pre-authorizations, medical forms, and death certificates in compliance with BCN policies and federal and state hospice regulations.

Position Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice medicine in Kentucky and holds an active DEA license.
  • Board-certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology, or a relevant medical specialty; Hospice and Palliative Medicine certification preferred.
