Physician
This role combines direct urgent care patient care with active supervision and prescriptive delegation for Advanced Practice Providers. The physician evaluates and treats patients of all ages, performs urgent care procedures, and supports APPs through chart reviews, consultation, feedback, and clinical guidance.
The position offers flexible scheduling with a minimum of four shifts per month and no routine after-hours charting or follow-up responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages in an urgent care setting
- • Manage acute illnesses, injuries, and occupational health visits
- • Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including labs and imaging
- • Perform urgent care procedures such as suturing, splinting, and wound care
- • Clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
- • Document patient care accurately and efficiently in the EHR
- • Code and bill services appropriately
- • Maintain productivity consistent with urgent care benchmarks
- • Practice in alignment with NextCare clinical standards and values
- • Provide clinical supervision and prescriptive delegation for the full-time equivalent of up to seven APPs
- • Remain available for clinical consultation by phone, email, or virtual communication
- • Complete required chart reviews and supervision documentation
- • Provide feedback, coaching, and clinical guidance to assigned APPs
- • Support escalated or complex clinical questions as needed
- • Partner with medical leadership, operations, credentialing, and compliance teams
- • Maintain supervision and delegation requirements in accordance with Texas Medical Board regulations
Required
- • Active, unrestricted Texas medical license
- • MD or DO degree
- • Board certification or board eligibility in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a related specialty
- • Active DEA license or ability to obtain
- • Ability to treat patients of all ages
- • Active BLS certification
- • EHR proficiency
- • Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays
- • DOT certification or willingness to obtain; associated fees are covered
- • Willingness and eligibility to provide supervision and prescriptive delegation for APPs in Texas
Preferred
- • Prior urgent care, emergency medicine, or fast-track experience
- • Previous experience supervising Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants
- • Strong procedural skills, including suturing, splinting, and wound care
- • Experience with initial X-ray interpretation before radiology over-read

In addition to working clinically, the physician will provide supervision and prescriptive delegation for the full-time equivalent of up to seven Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants. A monthly stipend will be provided for each APP assigned to the physician for supervision.
