Physician- Family Medicine Faculty GME
This role combines clinical practice with teaching and mentoring residents in a Family Medicine residency program. The physician will supervise and teach residents in both ambulatory and inpatient settings, develop curriculum, provide feedback, and participate in scholarly activities, while also maintaining an active patient care practice. The position offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of physicians.
Key Responsibilities
- • Supervise and teach Family Medicine residents in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- • Serve as a trusted mentor and advisor as residents navigate their clinical and professional development.
- • Develop lectures and participate in conferences, clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, peer reviews, and other learning opportunities.
- • Provide formal and informal resident evaluations with thoughtful, actionable feedback.
- • Help develop, implement, assess, and continually improve the residency curriculum.
- • Participate in interviewing and selecting future residents for the program.
- • Collaborate with residents on scholarly activities while modeling curiosity and lifelong learning.
- • Participate as a member of the Clinical Competency Committee.
- • Partner with the Program Director, Chief Residents, GME leadership, and fellow faculty to advance program goals and initiatives.
- • Continue growing your own skills as a clinician and medical educator.
- • Participate in hospital committees and Graduate Medical Education meetings as appropriate.
- • Maintain dedicated independent patient-care time of at least one half-day per week without residents or students, consistent with ACGME Family Medicine faculty requirements.
- • Precept Family Medicine residents for up to five half-day sessions per week within the Family Medicine practice site.
- • Provide approximately 20% inpatient service coverage.
- • Provide safe, high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered Family Medicine care.
- • Work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, nurses, residents, students, and other members of the healthcare team.
- • Help develop and periodically review rotation-specific goals and objectives, program aims, policies, elective rotations, and other components that keep the residency moving forward.
- • Model professionalism and guide residents in effectively working with healthcare teams, patients, families, and the communities they serve.
- • Help residents learn to think critically, communicate clearly, work across teams, lead with compassion, learn from feedback, stay curious, and care for the whole person.
Required
- • Hold an unrestricted Maryland medical license
- • Hold a valid DEA certificate
- • Meet requirements for active membership in good standing on the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff
- • Be qualified by training and experience in Family Medicine
- • Meet applicable ACGME requirements for Family Medicine faculty
- • Hold current certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine or American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians
- • Maintain applicable professional memberships, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and Maryland Academy of Family Physicians
