Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is recruiting for a part-time Psychiatrist position that will work approximately 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE).

MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system.

Position Summary

Duties

As a Psychiatrist, you will provide direct medical and psychiatric services to patients of MMHI in accordance with established institution policy, treatment methods, goals of patients and unit policy. Duties include:

• performing psychiatric exams and prescribing medications and treatments.
• psychiatric consultation with patients and families, and providing consultation to community agencies.
• participating in or conducting in-service meetings, staffing, case conferences.
• conducting physical health assessments.
• training residents, medical students, and unit staff.
  
  

Salary Information

The starting pay is up to $158.29 per hour, plus excellent, pro-rated benefits.

• Pay may include an add-on of $23.00 per hour for board certification in psychiatry, or $8.00 per hour for board certification eligibility.
• A 12-month probationary period is required.
• Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 10/52.
  
  

Job Details

All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:

• Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of Wisconsin, or ability to obtain a license prior to appointment, plus a minimum of three (3) years of training in an approved residency in psychiatry. Board Certification in General Psychiatry is expected within three (3) years of hire. Well-qualified candidates will also have one or more of the following:

• Board Certification in Psychiatry.
• Fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, or geriatric psychiatry.
• Experience working in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
