This role involves providing comprehensive vascular and endovascular neurology care, including outpatient clinics, inpatient vascular neurology, and neurointerventional procedures. The position offers collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, teaching opportunities, and research opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- • Serve as a vascular and endovascular neurologist on the UPMC Altoona campus.
- • Provide clinical services spanning outpatient clinics, inpatient Vascular Neurology service, and Neurointerventional services.
- • Collaborate with a dedicated team of local and regional neurologists, neurointerventionalists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, Advanced Practice Providers, dedicated stroke nurses, therapists and social workers.
- • Participate in educational lecture series, larger department events, teaching and research opportunities with the Pittsburgh campus.
- • Engage in clinical teaching opportunities with medical students for Neurology Clerkship and Stroke/NIR electives.
Required
- • Completed at least one year of vascular neurology fellowship.
- • Completed at least 2 years of Neurointerventional fellowship.
- • MD or equivalent.
- • Board certified/eligible in Neurology and Vascular Neurology.
- • Ability to obtain an unrestricted PA license.

- UPMC Altoona is a 400-bed regional healthcare system providing care to nearly 400,000 residents in central Pennsylvania.
- UPMC Altoona is a Joint Commission certified stroke center and has been performing Neurointerventional procedures since 2018.
- On the Altoona campus, there are clinical teaching opportunities with regularly rotating medical students for their required Neurology Clerkship and for Stroke/NIR electives from both Drexel and University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine.
- Clinical services span outpatient clinics, inpatient Vascular Neurology service and Neurointerventional services. A separate Neurohospitalist service covers general neurology consultations.
- Research conducted at the UPMC Altoona campus includes funded clinical trials in stroke with the goal of offering our patient population access to state-of-the-art care. These trials include drug and device trials.
- Research funding for clinical, basic, data science, and translational studies in the UPMC Neurology department has increased steadily and in FY25 the department received over $25 million in research support.
- The Department of Neurology was awarded the NINDS UE5 to support research training of residents and fellows, “Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Neuropathology Pittsburgh Research Education Plan (N3-PREP)” and is also part of the NINDS Network for Excellence in Neuroscience Clinical Trials (NeuroNEXT).
