What Physicians Actually Do
Physicians in investment roles evaluate the clinical and scientific merit of companies, drugs, devices, and digital-health products. That means assessing whether a therapy's evidence is credible, whether a market is real, and where the clinical risks lie - the clinical due diligence
that finance-trained investors cannot do alone. The work spans deal sourcing, diligence, portfolio support, and, at senior levels, investment decisions.
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
MD/DO with the ability to critically appraise clinical and scientific evidence
Business and financial literacy (valuation, markets, unit economics)
Sharp judgment and clear, concise communication
Comfort with risk and fast decision-making
Preferred:
MBA or finance training, or demonstrated self-taught fluency
Domain depth in a therapeutic or technology area
A network in biotech, venture, or healthcare services
