The associate program director assists the residency program director in development and delivery of program curriculum, resident assessment and evaluations, selection of residency candidates, remediation and coaching processes, supervision of trainees, and faculty development. This role includes GME leadership within the Internal Medicine Residency Program and responsibilities as a hospitalist and infectious disease consultant.
Key Responsibilities
- • Maintain board certification with AOBIM or ABIM, as well as state medical licensure.
- • Supervise residents in the resident outpatient clinic and/or inpatient care teams.
- • Participate in resident education, such as morning report or weekly didactics.
- • Assist with curricular and educational development.
- • Assist with resident coaching and remediation.
- • Assist in completing required semi-annual evaluations.
- • Participate with residents in scholarly activities, including clinical research, case reports, poster presentations, clinical vignettes, etc.
- • Participate in resident program leadership meetings, faculty meetings, clinical competency meetings, and graduate medical education committee meetings.
- • Share administrative duties of trainee management with program director, associate program director(s), and chief residents.
- • Assist in writing reports to accreditation council for graduate medical education and other regulatory bodies as required.
- • Evaluate program faculty and provide faculty development opportunities.
- • Participate in the selection of program faculty.
- • Perform responsibilities as delegated by the program director.

Purpose
The associate program director is responsible for assisting the residency program director in development and delivery of program curriculum; resident assessment and evaluations; selection of residency candidates; remediation and coaching processes; supervision of trainees; and faculty development. For these duties, the associate program director reports to the program director.
Position Overview
- Internal Medicine APD 0.55 FTE: GME leadership within the Internal Medicine Residency Program to assist with resident training, program administration and innovation. This individual will work closely with the Program Director, one additional Associate Program Director, chief residents and faculty. As a sub-specialist, they will facilitate communication and curricular development for core and elective rotations. 0.05 FTE designated for Residency Advisor Committee Faculty Liaison. This role will include assisting residents with agenda setting for meetings, idea generation for concerns, and advocacy.
- Hospitalist at GSRMC 0.2 FTE: Attend on academic IM residency inpatient services which include residents and medical students (approximately 5 weeks/year).
- Infectious Disease Consultant 0.25 FTE: The Infectious Disease component of this position will include participation in the inpatient and outpatient services as part of the Samaritan Infectious Disease group. The provider will share equally in the group’s call rotation (1 in 4 weeks). During call weeks, responsibilities will include providing inpatient infectious disease consultation coverage at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, completing electronic consults from other facilities within the health system, and maintaining limited outpatient continuity through a one-hour daily clinic block Monday through Thursday.
