The Role

Medical Director, Commercial (Part-Time)

We are looking for a Medical Director with expertise in autoimmune disease to represent WellTheory in sales and client-facing interactions. In this role, you’ll act as the clinical expert supporting our commercial efforts, working closely with employers, health plans, and internal teams to articulate WellTheory’s clinical value and ensure our programs align with industry standards and best practices. This role involves joining sales calls, collaborating with internal teams, and building trust with potential clients.
The ideal candidate will excel at building relationships with healthcare stakeholders, synthesizing clinical insights, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that WellTheory’s offerings meet client needs and improve patient outcomes.
This is a part-time role (up to 20 hours per month) with potential to grow into a full-time position.

About You

These are not strict requirements but describe someone who might be a great fit for WellTheory and this role:
Holistic health advocate. You believe in the power of lifestyle interventions (nutrition, movement, stress management, sleep) to address autoimmune conditions.
Strong verbal communicator. You’re a skilled presenter and particularly excel at explaining complex medical concepts to diverse audiences, from executives to non-clinical stakeholders.
Relationship builder. You excel at building trust and credibility with healthcare stakeholders.
Collaborative mindset. You thrive in cross-functional teams and enjoy working closely with sales, marketing, and product teams.

Who We’re Looking For

MD or DO, with board certification in Rheumatology or substantial clinical experience in managing autoimmune conditions.
Ability to engage and build trust with healthcare stakeholders in sales settings.
Preferred experience:
Telehealth or remote care delivery.
5+ years of healthcare industry experience in commercially-oriented roles.
Background or expertise in clinical research, education, technology, product design or innovation.
Outside of the specific role, here are qualities that make someone successful at WellTheory:
Empathy for the autoimmune experience. You don’t need to have an autoimmune condition for this role but you need to have deep empathy for the lived experience of autoimmune patients and be able to effectively convey that to potential customers.
Beginner’s mindset. You have a love of learning and like to solve problems from the ground up. You’re a curious person and embrace the opportunity to explore the unfamiliar aspects of your role, ask questions, and seek understanding without fear of judgment. You openly admit when you make mistakes and are open-minded when it comes to new approaches of problem-solving.
Unreasonably relentless. You’ve been called a “force of nature” and have done something most people wouldn’t (e.g., ran a marathon, started a company, got a degree while working full-time, and/or overcame difficult adversities). Persistence is your middle name and you don’t give up easily.
There are very few moments in life where you can change the world at scale and out of those few moments, there are even fewer moments where it is the right combination of passion, impact, and personal growth. We’d be thrilled to have you join us.

You might not enjoy working with us if you:

Like working in a more established, structured environment. You'll help build our company's culture, processes, and ways of working.
Don't like working with ambiguity—since we're an early-stage startup, projects and priorities shift.
Are looking for lots of guidance in your role—while our team members have a ton of expertise to share, we'll also be looking to you to take ownership and work autonomously.
Like your work to be well-defined from the get-go. We'll be looking to you to bring your own experience and perspective to help us do the right things and flag if you think we should do things differently. You will have the opportunity to bring creativity and ownership to your projects.
Prefer working only in person. We are a remote company and will have in-person events every year, but will not require employees to be in an office every day.

What You’ll Do

Participate in sales calls to engage with employers and health plan medical directors, playing a key role in promoting WellTheory’s clinical approach and program benefits.
Serve as the clinical expert, communicating the value of our programs to potential clients and answering medical questions with credibility and confidence.
Establish relationships with medical directors from health plans, self-insured employers, consulting organizations, health systems and other digital health vendors.
Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to refine messaging, presentations, and materials for client meetings.
Stay informed on autoimmune care trends and incorporate relevant insights into discussions and materials.
Provide input on program development to ensure alignment with clinical best practices.
Collect and synthesize external clinical requirements for WellTheory product, operations, and clinical improvements.
